Audi want £358 for a simple oil service on the TT.

Not an inspection, just change oil, filter, and sump Bung seal.

Labour rate now £130 plus vat an hour.

Ok it takes 7.1 litres of oil, and probably expensive stuff, but still can't get over the price.

My last service on my Z was £100

Audi = rip off prices

Do people really pay these labour rates?

Audi A5 oil inspection service plus brake fluid change £383:( - booked in on 22 December - I hope to get a few sweets and a couple of mince pies = discount!:D

I recently completely one of their surveys suggesting loyalty discounts!!

And - I don’t understand their fast track process - sounds a bit suspicious - you don’t get charged any less - and I would question the thoroughness of this service!

Probably Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil plus oil filter and sundries and labour possibly a look round whilst on the ramp dreaded Vat. Probably a tad step but main dealers do charge that sort of money for prestige high end cars.
Ask for a discount never hurts.

I think this is close to the cost of a BMW Oil Service.

Audi / BMW / Mercedes don't want to deal with customers who worry about the cost of things. They want to deal with company cars that are less than three years old. Anyone else is a hindrance.

Most prestige high end cars have a 2 or 3 year warranty and have to have the cars serviced at main dealer to keep warranty valid.
If after the period you choose not to have an extended warranty you can go to an independent if you so wish to save a few pounds.
Main dealer stamps in the service book do help come trade in time with price.
Obviously if a cars over 6 years old let's say it's not so important main dealer stamps a good recognised independent will suffice.

Not today, tomorrow or any day. That's insane! There's not much a local Indy can't do on most cars, £35 pph for me.

I have to keep main dealer stamps so they have me by the goolies.

If you try and sell an Audi to an Audi main dealer they will insist on full Audi history.

I'll only keep it three years or so, guess I'll just have to factor the cost of servicing into part of owning an expensive car.

But I've recently got a letter from Porsche offering a first service on the Macan that we've sold, fixed pricfe, £180

What's the difference? A human being will do the oil change either way! I was in the trade for 7 years or so and didn't give a monkey's flick when giving a valuation if it was main dealer stamps or not as long as the car had been serviced as scheduled, that includes working in the main agents and car supermarkets. Mercedes were a little more cautious but still gave the same price regardless. They wouldn't however sell it off their forecourt as it breaks MB rules on selling used cars. They just traded them out but we're happy they'd made the sale on the new car.
Anyways back to the question of "would I pay the price"?
No I bloody wouldn't!

I might be getting somewhere, saw them today and showed them the letter from Porsche offering a first service for £180

He's having a word with the manager on Monday, sometimes they price match he said, different car though so we'll see.

Another reason for keeping the history within the main dealer is goodwill after the warranty has expired.

I've seen plenty of goodwill payments for repairs out of warranty, but the answer is always a big no, no, if the car's been serviced independently.

I think most company cars have a service pack for the first 3 years (I don't know how many miles it now covers) and dealers make little out of that.
Just had an oil service on the BMW. X1 oil,oil filter and micro filter as car is over 3 years old it's on Value Service cost was £159 inc vat at main dealer. Cleaned inside and out ,and it really needed cleaning. They checked brakes ect and they needed no attention, but I'd they had the costs are all on the web site before you go in.
While waiting they provide good coffee and biscuits while they try to sell you a new car.

When I used to run new expensive cars I always negotiated fixed price servicing. In my experience Range Rover, Mercedes and Jaguar main dealers will all negotiate rather than have you walk away provided you do not go in making demands that are unreasonable. They are in business to make money but I draw the line at paying over the top for their fancy suits and pretty girls on reception. People buy people and always do their best for someone they like so always smile and stay cool.

When I run RR's my big gripe was the labour rate increased from 90's to discos to RR but they were same techs in same bay using same equipment. I also got fed up with dealer using non genuine parts ( always notified on the invoice)

Good point. And that is exactly why they can come down if you negotiate. I never had a main dealer offer non oem parts though.

Not always it isn't. My old boss got two new front wings and four new doors on a 56 plate A4 Quattro and the car was well outside of warranty and had been serviced away from Audi too. They were basically rotted out.

Wow, he did well.

Was there any explanations as to why they rotted out? Not sure I've seen an A4 with excessive rot, apart from one AWD one that had been used by a equine vet.

Mercedes a different story, cars up to 2005 were terrible for rot, and as for Mazda, seen 5 year old MX-5's with serious problems.

Never had rot in any of my Mercs and my first one was a 1986.
I think the problem was cars between 2001 and 2005, can't remember who but some one told me it's when they changed their paint process.

At the time, 2008 ish, I was a buyer for one of the internet buying companies and I was walking away from quite a number of them, was such a shame to see such nice cars with horrid corrosion, you could tell it was coming from underneath the paint as it started with little bubbles under the paint. Merc warranty covered most of them, one C180 estate had a complete new bodyshell change after the long term customer demanded it.
