Z3 2.8 won’t rev 🤷‍♂️

Hello again folks,
So… the Z3 has been to the garage (yes I gave up) they’ve sorted all the old hoses, replaced an ignition coil, throttle body & MAF. Smoke tested it all.
she starts & runs beautifully
But she won’t rev
They’re stumped! They think electrical
Any suggestions please? All this sun & no Z3 is driving me mad!

My Mind but the mechanics are saying it’s something else .
Just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

2000 Z3 2.8
It starts on the button & idles lovely since changing & replacing stuff
When depressing the accelerator It starts to pickup then chokes & splutters.
Take the foot off & it recovers to idle beautifully

I've had this, cat fell apart inside and blocked exhaust. If you bang the cat with your hand you might hear it rattle. Failing that, take back pipe off and look into the cat. Bust the bits up in the cat and rake all the bits out.

Mine did this when some debris blocked the air intake behind the nearside headlight, worth a look just in case.

Easy fix!

The throttle disc has jammed in the throttle body. Over time, the steel disc wears a small ridge in the alloy housing and eventually it sticks. The throttle pedal feels normal and you can see the mechanism on the side moving. But the twin vanos 2.0 and 2.8 have a throttle body with the ASC motor built in and the idea is that the motor can shut the throttle disc when it detects wheelspin.

Remove the intake bellows so you can see the throttle body and I bet you the disc is stuck closed. A good jab on the disc will open it - use some 800 grit wet and dry with WD40 and polish the ridge out so the disc opens and closes. You can do it on the car although removing it makes a better job.
