I have started to use my M as my commute car (I know pure sacrilege) But I'm one of those who likes to enjoy my journey to and from work. I managed a 27mpg last week!! I couldn't believe I got 265 miles to that tank of fuel.

Is this a one off or do other people get this economy too??

Get similar myself on a steady run if not slightly more tbh. Keep it out of the vanos area and it does quite well on fuel.

Hi Lee,

I've done the fill up drive fill up again method then worked out the mpg by how many miles to litres used etc..
Mine returns 28mpg on long runs so your 27 is about right ;)

I have been working on adjusting the trip computer to show a more accurate mpg figure over the past few weeks by filling driving and refilling and I have been getting 27 out of my 3.0. Although the trip computer suggested I was getting 38 !!!

Hi I'm new here but a long time Z3 owner. Have you got the original inlet manifold? Some Z3's for the UK came with a restricted Inlet manifold.... On my 2,8 M roadster, I bought the unrestricted engine inlet manifold and fitted a Kohn straight line filter.
I was doing 27MPG. I now do 35MPG when driving sensible. Of course when you go faster the MPG goes down, but I still get 25MPG at 90. Even with the top down.

Also fitting a hard top during the winter improved the drag and consumption ....

Hi Tony that's an impressive mpg! My 2.0 is an Auto so no where near that but as Aceman said don't get into hi revs and it's ok. A big welcome to the forum too from sunny Florida ( usually Lincoln ) my car is also my daily drive for that same reason I sometimes even get to work with a smile on my face!!:)

I hate to worry you all, but at reasonable driving speed, 65-70mph my Z3 2.0L will manage 35mpg. Though it does need a long run, 30 miles or more to achieve this.

It really does depend on how you drive it though :)
My 3.0L will do over 30mpg on a motorway run - averages between 22 and 25 in short journeys on country roads, and has been known to average 14mpg (but it was fun!)
Probably the biggest range I have ever had on any car...

Not a worry in any way because if I was concerned about mpg I wouldn't have bought the car in the first place. Majority of my driving is commuting to and from work which is approx 25 miles a day. I do get nearer 30 on a longer run but I got the car to enjoy it which inevitably means putting your foot down when it's safe to. My other car is a 2.5 TDI Touareg which also does 25 ish mpg but that also drops with the throttle pedal. Cest la vie !!

having it resprayed and wax oiled this month... will take a pic when done and in the hood so you can see the differences..

Also next year getting a new soft top with a proper Glass laminated "zip out" and fold window with a special gutter so you can put the roof up if it starts raining suddenly without rain ingress..
Although the black hoods are nice I am wondering if I shouldn't try a Red top to match the inside leather.... I've seen an all silver and white and an all blue... they do look quite cool.. and all "Black on black" without the silver side flashes v nice..
