It was vicious mate, I was working outside in the sun all day and was wishing there a pool to go jump in! Good luck with the refit Lee.

Tell me about it. Me and Gaz nearly died last Saturday. My neighbours felt sorry for us and bought us ice creams. :D
You’ve got some good neighbours there!

Don’t you think the Zedshed needs a paddling pool to go with the gazebo..
Can act as as a degreaser / ‘de Z3 muck’ bath too =))

Last Saturday I got caught in traffic that made a 20 min journey into a 90 min one. Open top motoring is great I have the sunburn to prove it. Oh and an air con that blows warm was the icing on the cake.

Still enjoyed the Z Kobra though :)

Speedy update.

The 3.0 engine is now in!!! Less than 24/h turnaround.

The inbetweenie bit has been a journey, we now know 100% why the engine died. The oil pump nut fell off and the reason is because of the raised rev limiter, the harmonics produced by the crank above the original red line are enough to undo the lefthand thread nut! So if you have a raised rev limiter BEWARE it may very well fall off.

Oil pump sprocket with nut missing.

Swarf!

Now heres the strange bit. Its an M54 3.0 lump. Running M52TU straight through exhaust manifolds. 2.8Tu inlet mani and throttle body. Also the ECU is programmed to run a 2.8TU.

Will let you know if it runs tonight once I stick some oil in it :D

May be a good idea to wire the oil pump nut to stop it coming off. Great job though Lee

Yeah this is what people do as a last resort, it stops the imminent failure but makes a right racket if it goes.

You can buy an upgrade kit so the pump sprocket is held on with 3 capheads with nordlock washers.

You need a T-shirt that says ‘I went to the ring and lost my nut’

Other variations available =))

Great work Lee, that oil pump nut is definitely an interesting discovery. Good luck with the restart.

I would be tempted to put a spot of weld on the nut/spindle joint. You're not likely to ever want to remove the nut for any reason are you ?

Looks light you literally revved the nuts off it. Going to post a vid if it all goes to plan tonight?
‘Literally revving the nuts off it’
I’m feeling the beginnings of a whole range of new Zedshed / Ring ‘merchandise’ coming on...=))

She's alive albeit a little blow from the exhaust manifold but purrs away nicely. Strangely the clutch pedal is stuck solid, need to take a look at the clutch fork I think it's stuck for whatever reason. I know the slave is ok as I had to handle it refitting.

She lives :D

She'll be a lifer now Lee. You must have really bonded with her after the recent adventures. My black zed will be with me until the end now. There's something about an engine transplant that adds something special to the relationship and yours has gone through it twice.

Great work as usual mate :beer

It's like a heart transplant isn't it? It's what makes a car whole. How did you fix the oil pump shaft nut in the end Lee?

Tony.

Couldnt agree more @Jack Ratt I've also been making my own subtle tweaks along the way.

I moved the oil pump from the 2.8, rebuilt it and fitted it to the 3.0. I just re torqued the nut and thread locked it. I've also removed the raised rev limiter for now. I might at a later stage revisit the limiter and oil pump, for now though it should all be ok long as I stay in the rev range.
