We drove up to Essex yesterday in the rain to pick up and fit a hardtop from Mr Smartbear who gave us a very warm welcome - how the internet and sites like this have changed our lives!

Thought I'd post a couple of pictures taken on the way home in case, like us, you were wondering if you really need to match body colour. Rob was also able to supply a set of matching Side Vents but you will need to wait until winter to see those. While a hard top is not a necessity it certainly makes things easier when it drops below freezing.

On initial fitting there was some wind noise - easy cure was to undo two front bolts, slacken off the three bolts securing each front plate, then re-engage each front bolt 3 turns to align the plates, tighten up the three bolts on each plate and finally tighten the two front bolts. This worked for me allowing the front edge of the hood to drop back a little while also dropping down slightly to find its natural fit.

For any new Zed owners reading this I suggest you look for the fixing kit before you buy a hardtop.

(in case you are wondering its Sapphire Black, not Jet Black)

Low Rider, it might be worth jumping onto facebook - BMW Z3 Roadster & BMW Z3 Coupe Owners Club UK - scroll down looking for a post from Mike King - he was my other option, just a bit further away. Just not sure which version of black but can supply the fixing kit as well.

Looks fine in Black...may need something else either painted or wrapped in black to compliment it though, door handles are a bit small on their own.

Maybe some black powder coated wheels with winter tyres and matching black side grills - there is still some debate in the house on that.

Roof looks good on your car Paul, as for winter wheels-I know of some suitable wheels which would be ok ;)

The combo looks great!! My z3 is Boston green with an oxford green HT and I think I get more compliments with the combo than I would if coordinated colours. As @phil.a says, same as your soft top, but nicer by far! JIM
