Hello All,

After reading the Silverstone auction S54 thread, it reminded me that I hadn't posted anything for a couple of years, so I thought now was as good a time as any to post a few pictures of the current Z

I sold my old Estoril S50 a couple of years ago, as I had to scratch the 911 itch for a while. Having got that out of my system (for the moment), I picked up another M last October, this time an Imola S54.

The previous owner had the wheels refurbished in normal silver, but these have now been put back to the correct shadow chrome. Apart from a bit of tidying up, the only other thing I want to do is put a black roof back on it, this is just so its the same spec as when it left the factory.

A couple of photos taken this evening as the light was fading (this makes the photos a little shadowy, but does show off the curves):

Welcome back again @Renaud!

Imola is stunning, and on an S54 makes it pretty rare & special. Hope to see it in the flesh one day

Hello All,

Thanks for all the comments.

I think this one will be a keeper. We know they only made 73 (ish) right hand drive S54 Z3M roadsters, but as this one was the last one they made, I feel I should try and hang on to it and keep it to as close to factory original as I can.

Will post more photos when I get round to doing the roof.

@ Hornel: Yep, that was me that popped down one evening for the radio. Thanks again for that, it finished off the S50 nicely!

That is a stunning zed you have there Renaud and agree that you should hang onto that for dear life. Let me know when you do the soft top as I might be interested in the your red one.

Thanks Aceman,

Will keep you in mind when I get the roof done. But thats probably a few months away now, my wife thinks I just spent far to much on a new set of wheels for the bike (closet MAMIL!!) ..

Hello Frankie,

Thanks for the photos, interesting to see the M with Imola and a black roof. Hopefully I will be able to get my Z somewhere close to the standard of yours when finished, its just a shame some joker put your steering wheel on the wrong side! ;)

If I get time this weekend, I'll get a quote from the local BMW dealer, just to see how much an original BMW roof will be. I can then work out how much pocket money I will have to squirrel away, or if I can justify the expense of BMW over other manufacturers roofs.

The BMW hoods are between 1200 to 1400 plus vat plus fitting.

I can send you details of an excellent fitter and hood manufacturer.

Where are you located please?

Thanks BMG,

I'm based in Newbury, West Berkshire.

The only reason I was thinking about a genuine BMW hood was so that I could keep it as close factory spec as possible. But, if its going to work out a couple of grand (£) more, then thats going to be a little tricky to justify.

Having said that, let me have the details of your fitter and I can always get a comparative quote.

Thanks again,

R

Most mfg's use the same BMW materials and patterns the only difference is they stitch the back window in solid not zipped as original. To get around this but one of the German made replacements and take the outer zipper from your old top and get those sewn in as OEM. In your case I would go to a breaker and buy an old top to remove the parts you need then you can sell your replaced top to Aceman or ??? I think personally changing the colour if it is original to the car would devalue it as it would no longer be original. JMHO JIM
