Z3 Roadster 2002 Convertible Key Disconnecting in Public

My original BMW Z3 Convertible 2002 key randomly disconnects/becomes uncalibrated from the car when I go out in public. When I calibrate the key in my garage (Position 1 and back 5 times, hold in the unlock button and press the lock button 3 times) the car connects to the key. However, whenever I leave my street, the key no longer unlocks/locks the car remotely. When I tried to recalibrate it in public, the car wouldn't connect to the key (the locks wouldn't go up and down and the buttons didn't work.) I have switched out the battery so I can confirm that's not the issue. Any ideas as to what I can do? Thanks in advance.

I've seen it when at a Retail Park ~ something to do with interference with security scanners outside stores?

Don't know if it is still a problem?
