I was wondering what peoples opinions were on choosing between a Z3 or Z4 as a second car. I'm talking in respect to the running, maintenance and driving rather than the looks.

I joined the board with the intention of buying a Z3 2.2 or 2.8 auto but I do keep seeing the Z4 on my searches and it has really spiked my interest. I'm sure I will get the Z3 but it's interesting to hear from others who have actually owned the cars.

Is there actually a big difference between driving the two. Does one make you smile more than the other?

I actually prefer the look of the Z3 front but think the Z4 has a better looking rear.

I'm still concentrating on looking for a Z3 as I've been wanting one for a few years and now I've finally got my ass in gear to actually buy one it's going to happen but only when the right one comes along.

i'd personally have a Z3 if its a second car.

but it depends on your budget as the 3.0i Z4 are cheap right now and thats a lot of car and engine for the money

There are also a lot more good examples of Z4s to choose from than equivalent Z3s. When I bought 16 mths ago, 3.0 Z4s were slighter cheaper and more abundant than 3.0 Z3s (I still got a Z3 tho cos I found a good un)

It would have to be a Z4 as a second car for me, but only because I already have a Z3 as a first car...

Just realised that we have had a Z3 as a second (or third) car almost consistently for over 20 years now. Have never wanted a Z4 in all this time.
Mind you, have also had the first wife for 38 years. I must lack something, answers on a post card please.

After reading through various comments on the forum it seems the Z3 certainly appears to bring out a deeper affection and passion in people. But it's like everything in life, we all like different things and what is right for one, is not necessarily right for the other.

The tricky part in all this will be finding a nice one. Going for an auto certainly narrows the market.
