So I've just put a deposit on this 2.8 I saw on eBay. Just thinking of putting an MOT on it and moving it on. Is there much profit to be made in that though?

Took the plunge as parts alone on the car are probably worth as much as I've paid anyway so i'm not going to lose out.

Anyway here's the car. Looks well kept in all honesty even though the mileage is high.:

I saw it and had a look.

There's no profit in breaking it at that price not a quick one anyway. Especially by the time you've paid to have it transported home.

Although if the chrome roll hoops are AC Schnitzer that might help.

And resale will be limited by the 170k miles on it.

There might be a few hundred in it. But it will depend what the condition is like close up and how much you spend fixing it.

Good fun anyway. A worthwhile project if you want to keep it.

You could make £500 - £1000 - depends though on how much you need to spend to get it through MOT - and cover any unforeseen faults.

Sounds promising. My close friend does my work on my cars so I'll be looking to get it mot'd soon. I may even sell my 1.9 and keep this to be honest as it ticks all the boxes for me.

Thanks for the reply. I've managed to sort recovery for £90 so happy with that. Once it arrives I'll have a look over it. Fingers crossed it passes fine. Last time it was MOT'd it only failed on ball joints and it's only done 4000 miles since then which was 2014.

If I didn't have my Parents' drive full of Z3s already I'd have been tempted to buy it for the devilment of it getting it through the MOT and having a go in a 2.8.

The 170k wouldn't have put me off as it's a cheap car and I do few miles in the Z3s.

But just be careful about thinking you can make a worthwhile profit ;)

Happy to be proved wrong but just trying to help you look after your pennies based on the cars I've bought/done.

Don't get obsessive over mileage, Dave @Mint car has done 176,000 and is a 2.2 6 pot and still going strong. I would be seriously tempted to keep this and move your 1.9 along and after driving a 2.8 for a bit I bet you will feel the same. Good luck which ever thing you do.:)

Tony.

ps. Not seen a 2.8 broken for bits on here yet so there could be some money to be made, although I would rather it stayed on the road.

It looks nice in the pictures, not too rusty under the bonnet, headlights look nice and clear, drivers seat not too badly worn. Sports seats too.

As a breaker I'm sure there's cash to be made, but as Mrscalex says, it'll take time, and space.

Get the Mot done and see how it gets on.

Looking at the hoops... they are just standard chrome as they do not have the black lump at the top which the AC Snitz... do.

Look like standard hoops to me, wrong profile for schnitzer hoops.

Put an MOT on it and run it as yours, you may have to tinker a bit but you will have loads of fun.

So she's arrived! Sounds sweet and very clean and tidy inside. Drivers bolster has a bit of wear. Externally it looks like someone has recently sprayed the sills as there's masking tape under the arches still. Roof works, heated seats only work on passenger side but no big issue.

Only potential big issue is it rattles like mad from the back left when under acceleration. Will be getting it up on the ramp next week but any idea what that could be? It's like the cars shaking.

Apart from that it's a solid car, no major panel damage anywhere. Really quite happy!

Rpossible driveshaft/wheel bearing issue. If it bad it should be fairly obvious when you get jacked up. Please keep us posted.

Cheers for the reply. Just been for a potter about. Up to 20mph it shakes badly from the back of the car. After 20mph it's fine? Anyway arranged to get it up on the ramp tomorrow so should be able to solve the mystery.

Also check the tyre for lumps and bulges.

Tony.
