Location = Lincoln.

Suspect head gasket failure - AA told me there are traces of exhaust gases in the coolant. I've not touched it in a few months and have bought alternative transport. No room to store in doors, still waiting on a local council garage for additional storage, but no joy as yet, hence sale.

I think at this price you can make plenty breaking it or fixing it up.

Just a touch over 100K.
Eibach springs, KYB gas struts.
Meyle HD front control arms, poly bushed.
Yellow stuff front pads.
New rear screen (HG popped on the way back from getting it fitted).
Poly bushed rear trailing arms and subframe bushes (very recent).
Exhaust bypass (electric no working, electrics fried by leaking rear screen).
H&R rear spacers and longer bolts.
OEM roll hoops.
Meyle HD rear anti roll bar drop links (they might be fitted or still in the garage - I can't remember if I fitted them or not).
Plenty of tyre tread left all round Hankooks up front and Kumho on the rear.
Two keys, alarm keys, two fobs (batteries flat), nice clean alloys, not perfect but pretty good.
MOT due August (I think).
Osram night breaker bulds, dipped and main.

Usual stone chips.
Bit of bubbling on the ends of the sill covers and a touch on the front wing leading edges.
Tired electric windows.
CAT has been knocked through (recently had blocked CAT, think this is when the HG was damaged).
Small chip in the screen, no problem passing the last 3 MOT's.
Drivers bolster worn and has a small split I think.

Pics to follow.

Battery is flat as of this morning, but it will be charged, still ran (drove in 10 yards onto the drive).

Sorry to hear the car is having to go Dave. Unusual for a six pot head gasket letting go unless something else contributed to it failing? As you say there's a lot of opportunity for someone to break it.

Tony.

I think when the CAT blocked is put a lot of heat into the engine, but what that did I don't know.
I did check the compression afterwards and all 6 were spot on, and ran it fine for a free weeks, but mostly short trips around town. The first sustained heat cycle (long motorway run) it went through was getting the rear screen replaced and got there fine, but popped on the return leg. No leaks, plenty of coolant. It could have been water pump failing, but that had been replace 3/4 years ago. If I had more time I'd investigate it a bit further.
I would have like to pop a V8 in there, but it's not a quick swap and I just don't have the time or determination I used to, so I got lazy and just bought a car with a V8 already in it!
I have another car to strip to make some more room, which might buy the Z3 a bit more time, but storing cars outside does them no favor's at all.
Can't bring myself to break her.

I had new water pump with metal impeller (A good brand too can't remember which) and it failed in less than a couple of years - the impeller became loose or something so don't assume it's not the pump just because it's been replaced before.
Also had a new viscous clutch unit and the actual fan (both genuine BMW) fail within a year or two of replacing. Maybe they've been lying around in the warehouse for too long!
