Hi my first post so apologies if not in right place but I have just acquired an old 2001 Z3 with the power hood and my problem is that it doesn't seem to filly retract so I can put on the cover - any ideas?

Do you have a picture of how far it goes? Mine is manual, but appears a little high when retracted. The tonneau cover pushes it down a little more when fitted.
Welcome aboard.

I'll take a picture and post it but I tried pushing down and it seemed not to want to go any further - very odd!

Is the frame bent or slightly out of line

Actually this advice was spot on thank you so much! The last BMW cabriolet I had was a 320i with a full power assist roof that tucked itself away under a cover automatically so to have to push down with the cover as you

thanks for this advice. I was used to a full automatic retractable roof on my 05 320i so was not expecting it to be so high so your advice worked and the cover did exactly as you described. Phew without your suggestion I’d have never pushed down a little and got the cover on! Sorry I didn’t post this reply quickly but I was so excited Debbie and I shot off for a nice drive in the sun with one pit stop for a large shandy for me and a large Chardonnay for her...

One follow up question though if anyone can help. The chap that sold. It to me said the only problem with the car is a tendency for the alarm to drain the battery. He installed an isolator in the boot attached to the battery. To disconnect if not used much. As this is only a fun car for driving to local country pubs and is garaged overnight is there any way I can not set the alarm and hence not bother?

Good you sorted it without drama. I know what you mean about the fully automatic hood. We have this on a E36 323i convertible and its magic - sit in the seat, push a button and it all happens, including automatically fitting the tonneau cover bit. Sorry, can't help with the alarm issue. Hope you had a good drive.

My car is garaged and so I never set my alarm or even lock it when it's in the garage
