Morning all,

From a cold a sleety North Essex, compared to last week that is when almost tropical, well anyway managed to clear out garage, and start on Z, (Head gasket) well anyways removed waterpump, intake manifold , and rail, noticed a lot of smaller rubber hoses are showing signs of wear so will replace.

assuming weather better this week, will remove exhaust manifold, and go for head, main reason for thread tho, any body got a link to a parts manual covering the M44 engine?

any advice would be appreciated

Hi Jonco
Yeah thanks for that, have seen that before, don't know if you have ever done a head gasket on the 1.9 but getting the inlet side off was a pain,.
Hoping to do exhaust side this week then, then head, coolant was pressurising , initially though was air block, but wasn't, have got a spare head, so if the one fitted is shot, can stick that one on

...... don't know if you have ever done a head gasket on the 1.9 ...
Fortunately not had to go that far and don't want that experience - have done rocker cover seal, cooling pump and injector change and hoses so I can envisage difficulties with the rest. If you are doing hoses may be worth looking at plastic hose block connectors while you have it apart. I didn't do mine as access is a pain with most of the kit in place. Good Luck.

Hi Sean, if you need any Torque info, there is a list on the ‘Z3 Roadster and Coupe ‘ section of the forum ( one of the sheets is M44 specific)
Also, I do have the Bentleys Z3 service manual if you need any specific info copied

Sorry thought you meant cooling hoses and I meant parts 1&2 on first pic and 8&9 on second upload_2020-3-29_19-49-15.png

Hi,

query here just doing rocker gasket on my 1.9 m44.

I noticed there is quite a large step between the timing case cover, and the cylinder head so that when the rocker cover fits the timing case cover is sitting about 1mm higher than the cylinder head... could it be that maybe my cylinder head has at some stage been skimmed, and should it be that maybe 1mm should have been taken off the top of timing case cover, to bring both the surfaces to the same level ? or will it be ok to just use hylomar or equivalent rtv type sealant to fill the gap... ?

my other thought was to maybe loosen my top timing case cover and see if it will move done a little bit to reduce the step between the two surfaces...

does this make sense ?

heres a youtube showing what i mean skip to 10:12 seconds to see the top timing case cover.
