That Fiesta XR2 takes me back. Always wanted one, but a bit of my range at the time.

Nice to see Mike getting to the nitty gritty of serious car purchasing, pointing out the rear parcel shelf isn't original. It's top buying tips like this we all forget to check!

Enjoyed that and he got a great price for it too. My mate is restoring a mk2 fiesta which is consuming more than what Mike and Ed had to do as most Fiesta's are rot boxes.

Porsche 993 next week can't wait.:D

He was having a bit of a rant on Facebook today about Edd's time ...

After 11 years I'm tired of explaining labour costs on the show..almost every hour! Edd plays the role of a home mechanic, anything that's done outside the shop we always factor the costs, we split the profits we make or reinvest into more cars. We don't really care about the profit..it's nice...but we are more interested in saving cars. Most of what we do is achievable with a good set of tools, guts and time...and for the record I work just as hard and I'm also a fully experienced mechanic. It's just the show isn't made that way. No doubt I receive dozens of insults now as usual but please just try to enjoy the show after all the car is always the star in Wheeler Dealers

I saw that too Neil and nearly posted up a comment. Some people just don't get the concept of the show do they. Mike and Ed are trying to portray what can be achieved by an enthusiast working in their own garage albeit maybe a well equiped garage but if you are serious about cars and maintaining them yourself it is not unuaual to come across people like this. There philosophyis if they make some money while doing it then it is a bonus but they are in it to preserve cars, their wages comes from the marketing and production of the show plus all the guest appearances around the country they must do.

There are alway trolls on the internet wanting to destroy people for the good they do which I imagine Mike Brewer knows but every now and then I suppose he likes to blow off some steam like we all do.

I always took Mike Brewer for being a bit of a knob, but then I watched him on Frontline Battle Machines when he went out to Afghanistan. Most of it was in his usual style, which is what I think people expect.

I think a bit of the real person came out in one particular episode, when he was sat in the back of a Chinook on a casualty evacuation mission under fire. A bullet came through the windshield and hit the pilot in the head. The injured pilot managed to fly back what was essentially a broken Chinook. The hydraulics were damaged, and after it was inspected they aren't entirely sure how it still flew.

I can't find the full footage, and there was much more than this shown (possibly in a highlights episode).

The pilot was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts.

I met him and Ed at the Classic Car Show last year and found both of them real gents if not Mike was a bit hyper but that was just the showman coming out I think. I often wonder if they will consider a Z3 in the near future with the current prices being so low would be interesting to say the least.

Well Nero that quote explains a lot, I have watched the program for years and never really got the fact that Ed was playing the amateur mechanic :wacky:. The costs make a little more sense now :)

1300 super sport was better than the XR2
I bought a Supersport from a friend who upgraded to the XR2, must of been about 1980ish. Probably the most fun car I ever had, apart from the Z of course.
Not especially quick but fast enough and handled like nothing else, I must have a photo somewhere. Was the same red as the XR2 at the start of the thread but had 4 spoke RS wheels, great fun...

Look how much better the styling is to the XR2, love the RS Alloys too. I think it is quite funny that the Ford designer said it was a big challenge to come up with the styling for the XR2, the only challenge I can see they had was fitting a 1.6 kent engine instead of a 1.3 kent engine, which IIRC is the same external dimensions..........

The workshop is just around the corner from me. I pass there every so often and you can see the next seasons cars parked outside if you're lucky.

Pop in ask them to do a Zed
Or leave your Zed outside and hope they do it up...

Could get some nice upgrades done by 'accident' =))

Mines done! The reason I got one was as much to do with that show as it was that I wanted a convertible/Z3. :)
