Wheel sealant?

Hi all,

Should be collecting the refurbed wheels on Monday, so just wondering what you lot put on your wheels to seal them? Need to order something so I can give them a nice couple of coats before I fit them.

Can I use ordinary car wax, as I have an unused pot of Collinite 476S Super Double Coat in the cupboard. Was thinking of Poorboys wheel sealant, but never tried it before.

Poorboys is ok, won't last ages though and you need probably 3 coats of it and top it up every few months. Collinite 476S is great for the bodywork and will also work just as good on your wheels. A couple of coats of that and you will be fine for a long time, this will save you buying anymore too.

Gaz, the stuff paul (hornel) reccomends is amazing stuff.

Poor boys is very good too.

I use the same stuff as paul.

The 3m stuff was reccomended by matt (offyourmarks) and hes a pro.

Gents, this is obviously a silly question from a newbie but why do you need sealant for the wheels ? I only ask as I've not long bought a set of wheels for the car and now I'm thinking I need to seal them !

I have chrome rims on my wheels will it stop them from going rusty and pitting ? Sorry haven't done much car cleaning/detailing before !!

It's all in the preperation as Mark will no doubt agree.

Make sure the wheels are spotlessly clean first then apply the sealant as per the instructions.

Next time you come to clean the wheels, the dirt should slide off with very little effort. Obviously the sealant will need topping up every now and then

Take the wheels off and do the whole lot. 3 coats and leave 15 minutes between them.

Thanks Mark, Gaz. Looks like another weekend cleaning then ! I think I might do something with the break callipers too why the wheels are off.

Brake calipers can be cleaned and or painted at the same time.

Yes it's best to get the proper paint but hammerite will do.

Stp do some good paint
