What's your favourite strap?

I think there's a few budding photographers amongst us zedders, and was wondering what peoples preferences were for a DSLR camera strip....do you like the round the neck type, across the chest, or do you like to let it hang loose from your wrist? :-o

The reason I ask is that I fall into the last two categories, sometimes I like it across the chest with the DSLR at the waist, sometimes hanging from the wrist. I use an Olympus 4/3 DSLR (stop laughing all you Canikons ) with a variety of lenses from small 50mm prime up to large 70 - 300mm telephoto. At the moment I have a couple of straps that I switch between but this is a real PITA so would like to invest in some kind of mutli purpose strap system.

What I would like is some kind of strap system with quick release buckles that I could swap between across the the chest to wrist strap easily.

Does anybody out there use or know of such a system, can anybody make any recommendations?

I have:

x2 Gordy Camera straps on my Canon 70d (a sling shot and a wrist strap)

and

x1 Gordy sling shot on my fuji x100

They are great hand made straps.

I ordered direct from him in the USA.

The sling shots are brilliant as you can just let the cameras hang by your side when not in use and quickly snap away by pulling the camera around. This is especially good for the x100 which really is a great street camera. I have the wrist strat on the 70d really due to the extra weight for support when shooting (especailly when it got a large lens and flashgun on)

Hi John, I like look of those especially the sling shot, this is how I like wear my camera a lot of the time. Would be a bit worried about using the wrist strap when carrying my camera with the 70-300 lens and extended battery handgrip attached, looks like the thin leather would bite into my wrist. I do like the metal threaded loop attachment method though, very clever, I'll have to give this some serious consideration.

BTW, like the look of that Fuji x100, might try and convince the OH to get me one for my birthday :YMPRAY:

The reason I went for a 4/3 camera in the first place was so that I could use it as a street camera because of smaller size and lighter weight, but what was the first thing I did? ... went and put an extended battery back/handgrip on it which probably increased the weight and size by about 50%! 8-|

I tend to use the stock neck strap and then have my arm through from the top. I can then swing the camera round so it hangs on my shoulder and rests in my lower back. It usually has the 100-400 lens on it so that hangs down. If the monopod is attached then the camera sits on my shoulder and the strap hangs loose.

Other than that I don't bother with one but that's just my preference. I don't like the hand straps as it slows down switching from landscape to portrait but then I usually need to change things about quickly to keep up with the action.

The x100 are great little cameras the only downside being it is slow to focus but the fast fixed prime lens is fantastic and it is so unobtrusive as a street camera. I love the retro looks just like the Z3 ;-) and they have come down in price a lot since I got mine last year.

The slingshot is perfect for the x100 as its so small and light, there is not much between the slingshot and neckstrap on the bulkier and heavier 70d it's down to personal shooting style really.
