Interesting read Tony, looks like l.e.d headlights are the future for new cars.
The article mentions that manufactures could make them automatically adjust to prevent blinding incoming drivers, which I'd definitely welcome.
Didn't know that cars fitted with xenons should have auto headlight washers either. Imagine how many have been retro fitted and don't have washers.

That has been addressed in the new M.O.T. test regs. mate. Aftermarket HID kits are now a failure.

Modern headlights can wright a car off quite easily, recently we had a Merc in and one head light was £1800, Mazda CX5 £750 and a Kuga £1000, the mind boggles, there is so much technology in one headlight and ultimately all it does is light up the road on which we drive.

It’s the complexity of the headlight design and manufacturing that causes the cost with so much in one package. The ones for my Disco is around £700. With HID adaptive lights along with additional cornering lights plus LED string as sidelights in addition to the halogen main beam and indicators they are beasts. And they are old technology. In addition to all that the car has high beam assist that switches to main beam automatically, which is great, but it is too slow to switch back when a car comes into view ahead.

With LEDs I suspect many functions will get integrated into one LED array - that should bring costs down.

I'm not so sure in the long term maybe but not in the short.
These led lamp units are all sealed no replacement parts ( anything going wrong new lamp required)
Plus the advanced tech from things like Audi Merc and Bmw will filter down

Stuff like those audi multi beam led lights really high tech and car integration is considerable
