I would like to change the power steering in my bmw z3 1.8 but I am not sure what it takes due to the z3 1.8 being quiet rare. I’m pretty sure the engine code is m43b18 any help appreciated :)

Any good Dexron III automatic transmission fluid - don’t use power steering fluid. Are you sure it’s not just a 1.8 badged car (like mine) which is actually a 1.9 M43. I think the 1.8s were only sold in the US

Changed mine a year ago and it hasn’t blown up yet 😁

If yours is an early facelift model (registered October 99 so should be) it will be the same as mine. The 1.8 [99-2000] and the 1.9i [2000 onward] have the same engine. Was probably done to differentiate it more from the 2.0 that came out in 99..who knows 😁

If it can’t be fixed with a damp cloth it’ll be beyond me..I am sure one of our more mechanically minded members will be along in a minute 😁

Any Dexron will do including Dexron II.

The M43 Z3 was badged as a 1.8 to distance it from the M52 6 cylinder 2.0. After late 2000 it became a 1.9i to bring it in line with the new 2.2i and 3.0i.
