What makes a z an individual

What makes a z qualify as an individual. I know bmw produced a number of factory individual models. My dakar yellow z has the individual plate on inner wing and has the heated electric cobra leather with yellow piped seats. Do the cars come with inner wing plate if only specced with some individual catalogue options

Individual was an extensive accessories catalog where you could pretty much design your own car. Whatever colour you wanted, the interior and any other options you could think of.

Not all individuals had the door sill plates though. Will see quite a few with the sticker under the bonnet with standard kick plates.

Individual doesn't mean it was built specially, just someone picked some individual options from the catalogue.

Usually on zeds it's the colour and or interior.

Yup, as they are not in standard production run and someone has paid extra for the options. It also helps identify real factory individuals for resale

For german built models I think the individuals were built in a separate facility

Individual Z3 models where the specification is picked by the BMW sales team with a limited production run and then shipped to the dealer. Our Mora red metallic was such a car we have seen four such cars with identical spec.

I know there was a number of factory individual models that cane like your mora in a certain trim limited to a time period rather than a production run I know they made a pre facelift dakar with colour and seats that I have but mine is a facelift. But it does have the individual plate on wing just trying to find out a bit more about them.

Instructions Below.

Updated as the original process (strike through) doesn't seem to be valid anymore. Replaced with a new procedure which does work!

There is an option to save the data as a PDF file, so you can keep it on file.

This works for both Z3 and Z4 models (and pretty much any UK BMW too!) and all you need is the last 7 digits of your VIN number.

1. BMW's VIN decoder seems easiest to use.
2. Go to http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html
3. Enter the last seven characters of the VIN, and the Captcha characters.
4. That will bring up your Z3's build data.

Hi Stevo, just thinking that you're Dakar yellow Z3 individual is one such car as I've described. We found with Mora, that there was only about 6 sold in this country although we've only ever seen 4, I expect if you look around you will find there are only about 6 cars similar to yours. This gives them a certain rarity and desirability.

Hi Brian thanks for the link your right about 940 option couple of things on option list not sure what car came with standard is everything on option list extras ?

I think there were about 4 or 5 Z3 Individuals/VELVET ;MORA ;COSMOS FIJI and one other.All have the Individual vin on the front suspension turate.I think most of the Individuals were 2.000 cc 6 cylinder all built around 1999-2000.
