Rebody What do you guys do to bridge the gap between the old inner wing and the f/g panel?

I'm not sure about other, non-507, builds. Maybe other bodies don't have this gap. But my 507 back end is screwed in by the doors and resting nicely on the boot extension but here, between the top of the boot rim where the rubber seal was and the f/g rear tub I'm looking at maybe 2 inches?

I'm planning on filling it with a plastic strip all around the rim of the boot but I haven't seen anyone else say what they did about this?

What did you guys do?

Just occured to me.

Is the boot on a facelift z3 higher than a pre face lift? I know the rear wings are higher but is the bootlid and the rim around the boot higher too?

That would explain the gap I'm showing.

Chris at tribute got back to me. The gap is there (ie i haven't fitted the rear tub wrong) and I just have to fill it.

The metal rim around the boot where the old rubber seal was. I'm going to extend that vertical upwards and put the old rubber seal on top of the 'new' higher rim so that the f/g tub rest in the rubber seal. Doing the rim in steel sounds extreme but might actually be easier to tack on to the old rim than faffing about with plastic strip. Haven't decided yet. I'll let you know what I do.

It’s not really open.
Once the inner wing covers are in place there’s little chance of anything working into the boot.
I must admit it’s not something that even occurred to me during the build,

I had a Z3 in a while ago that had the wheel arch splash panels removed for some reason. The mud had sprayed up onto both rear shelves under the rear wings and just sat there. The shelves had rotted and the car was not worth saving because of the rot.
The splash guards are normally fitted near completion and can be forgotten so do remember to fit them. I only mention this because from the photo of the gap around the boot, a lot of damp/water/spray will probably get into the boot as the splash panels won't have been refitted at this point. It may not look as if anything will get in that gap but I can assure you it will.
Looking at the pictures of the red car, the gap doesn't seem so bad, you might get away with some pipe insulation foam (must be the closed cell type), this could be fitted to the top flange to provide a seal depending on how much gap you have.

If you can use the Z3 rear hinges I would, if you don't have any give Spurs in a coupe a shout as I'm sure he will be able to help for not much money.
Nothing shouts kit car more to me than external boot hinges (apart from bolt on fog and reversing lights hanging from the rear bumper!), the problem is that new boot hinges are made of Chinesium and break, old boot hinges are stronger and better quality but most are 50 years old and the chrome won't be great.

When I said that I'd thrown the z3 boot hinges away with the boot lid. I meant that I ditched them on purpose after looking at how others have used them and decided I want to do it different.
