My s***'s custom!
I parked my daily diesel today with the wheels turned and caught sight of some damage to the inner edge of the tyre. I swapped it on to the spare (which is a bloody space saver:banghead:) as this is clearly dangerous.

I had no inclination there were any issues and the wear on the tread seems even, yet the inner tyre wall is shredded.

I inspected everything in the arch whilst the wheel was off and there’s no evidence of the tyre rubbing on anything there as I’d expect to see a polished or at least clean area where contact was made.

So my question is...what the hell has happened to the tyre?

Is your other car an x-type Mac?
The rear suspension has radius arms which the bushes collapse on worth checking these out.

Tony.

ps. Is the other tyre showing similar wear?

Yes mate, it’s an x type. This was the front offside wheel. The nearside wheel is flawless which has got me scratching my head.

I didn't read your post properly mate :bag:, now I've seen "wheels in lock". In that case I suspect that Sean has hit the nail on the head. The tyre may have been run underinflated at some point and possibly had a slight bulge in the tyre at that point.

Tony.

Been in the garage recently on a ramp / rolling road? Other possibility could be dropping down a kerb or pot hole edge?

My initial thought to was it had been parked right on the edge of a kerb and dropped off or driven off. That said I wouldn’t expect to see that amount of damage. It has been driven hard against something to remove all the rubber down to the cords. I’d guess at a nasty steep sided and long pothole at speed has just torn the edge off.

There's no damage to the wheel rim though. Pure tyre wear from underinflation.

Tony.
