I’ve been thinking for some time about what makes a good two, three or four day away. Trips that I could recommend and trips I’d enjoy. So looking for inspiration can anyone suggest where others should go? Hotels they’ve stayed at or know and lovely drives through stunning countryside. A Zed delight of a weekend. Easy and delightful.
I personally adore good homely places to stay. Gastro type pubs or cracking B & B’s. A nice bottle of wine by a log fire is wonderful. I love a meander through the countryside and roads that are flat wide and winding without being rough tracks. Interesting places to visit whether they’re Stately type homes or lovely little harbours or interesting Towns and villages.
One of the places I spend quite a bit of time is Kelso on the Scottish Borders. It is steeped in history and great places to visit. Amongst other places I stay in a B & B called the Old Priory. I can definitely recommend that place, but ask for a room away from the cobblestones or drink a good bottle of wine before heading to bed!

From there in about an hour you can visit Roxburghe Castle, The Jim Clark Museum, Lindisfarne (Holy Island) St. Abbs, Edinburgh, Coldstream, Abbotsford (Sir Walter Scotts Home), Melrose, Norham Castle, Berwick on Tweed, Newcastle and loads of other great spots. It’s a real hub of wonderful day trips. You can spend your time just wandering. The roads are all relativity clear and the countryside is stunning. Hills, moors and the wonderful river Tweed. You can walk and just chill if you want or drive and enjoy. Have lunch at the Ednam House Hotel http://www.ednamhouse.com/ and over look the famous Junction Pool on the River Tweed. You needn’t spend a fortune and on a sunny day it is to die for!
If anyone wants information I will do my best to advise.
So please post any local info that you have on a suggested weekend or short break away. Special places in special areas. It could inspire someone to take their good lady on a break, and their Z out of the garage!
