Waterless Coolant

While watching Wheeler Dealers this week as they worked on a Triumph TR6 they used a waterless coolant a product I'd never heard of but then again I'm no mechanic and thought this might be of interest to others.

I remember seeing this on WD a while ago,i think it's a great idea and it's on the list to do on my zed.

I'd of thought if the hoses are ok with water/antifreeze they should be ok with the waterless coolant as there will be less pressure on them ?

I know several people running the waterless in their BBC street rods and drag cars and it appears to do just as advertised! I'm thinking of going with it as we get such dramatic temp changes throughout our seasons that a lifetime solution seems a no brainer. JIM

It looks like theres a few types of this and power cool looks like the one for the Zed .
Frezzes at -40 and boils at 180 but dowan't vapourise so it doesn't cause pressure like water.
The system has to be prepped before with a water remover as no water is to be present its around £100-130 mark it has advantages obviously but not sure i would spend that kind of money unless needs must and the car was prone to overheat by design.

It is expensive but it lasts the life of the engine unlike water and antifreeze which should be changed every two years so I'm told.

I would say you need the system to be flushed and clean of all debris that might have built up. You then add in a pre fluid which takes all the water out before adding the waterless fluid. I would say that unless you plan to run your engine so hard it gets very hot you are better off running with a decent mix of antifreeze / fluid and water. A good system only needs to be serviced as per manufactures specs. The main issue with the Zeds is the water pump itself letting go and the fan heading north. So you would be better changing your water pump and flushing the system before adding the normal antifreeze etc.
