A question for the tech guru's out there, what does this mean? I've seen it on here and had it come up on my phone from Samsung. Loathed to start pressing buttons less I go back to the dark ages.

It’s an additional layer of security. Currently you have 2 pieces of information to access the forum - your username and password. 2 step / 2 factor authentication adds a third (usually) physical method such as an app on your phone.

So if someone steals your username and password, they can’t use them to login because they won’t have access to your authenticating device.
