I've got a trolley jack, but I also want another better one. Looking for one that will easily lift the front or rear of my Z4, for example under the diff at the rear up to a good height to rest it on stands. Must also be low profile to easily lift at the jacking points at the side. Recommendations ?

What's wrong with the one you have. Most low-cost ones will lift at least 1 or 1.5 tons.

Might not lift high enough in one go. Lift as high as it goes then put low stands under. Then lower the jack. Put a block of wood on the jack and lift again this time a bit higher. Adjust the stands etc etc.

Of course you can get bigger trolley jacks but they can be pretty big and often unnecessary.

Me. I'm fancying a scissor lift after seeing one in one of Tony's posts.

Yes @Duncodin I've used my jack like that, but it's not low profile which can be a problem and I wanted another jack as well to use instead of the old scissor jack I've got which I now find difficult to use. Arthritis/old wreck!

Paul has a nice compact, low profile jack Ken. He'll tell you about it. Shed day on the 6th. Nov. if you're free.

Tony.

Draper 2.25 tonne trolley jack, 75mm entry, mag tray for holding wheel nuts/studs. It’s quick and easy to control, the twist release is easier and more gradual than some.
Hefty though, 30 odd kg if I remember correctly.
I paid £125 locally as I needed it that day, my old jack was leaking. Pretty sure you can pick it up for less online.
Happy with it, does the job easily.

This is the one i have Ken. Probably not the best out there but at the price does the job for me. Lifts the Zed with ease although struggled with a Vito van i tried to jack up.

Thanks for the information folks. For the first time I have taken my zed off the road this winter so I thought it would be a good time to do a bit of tinkering.

I added one of these low profile to my other normal height jacks, its fine used with axle stands for backup.
Being old and aged I then splurged out and treated myself to a car lift, one of these just the same as @t-tony who got his after seeing mine on the forum posts. Needs scaffold boards either side to allow the car to clear the lift when driving onto it.
Dlivered on a pallet and needs a pallet truck to get it into your garage to unpack and set it up, needs at least two people to get it in, unpacked and set up. Once in place it can then be moved if required without too much trouble. Also needs connecting to a 30amp wired socket anything less will result in tripping your circuit board.
You will find other sellers offereing this lift at lower price but added delivery charge will bump this up in all probability to more than dealing direct with bhrepairs.

I've got loads of jacks, but the best is the SGS low profile.

Don't get a jack that has the release valve in the jacking mechanism (it looks like that Halford's one may be one of these). If you take the handle out, you can't lower the jack down :wideyed: . I'm sure that you can guess how I found this out. Has anyone tried to lift a 2.5 ton Mitsubishi with only a one ton jack?

I use my tilting scissor lift if I want LOTS of access, but it weighs a ton and needs a full car width's access beside the car. I have two independent hydraulic ramps that are run from a single pump if I want all the wheels in the air...

Similar to Pingu, I have amassed a varied selection of trolly jacks. Heavy-duty high lift for commercials, lightweight and small for carrying in the boot. I even have one of the tilting lifts that I have never used as it is too much hassle to put together. They all have their uses, however, I have a gravel driveway which makes moving the jacks around a really hard job.
I now have a 3 bag air jack , it doesn't need an overly large compressor.

It is light enough to carry around and after connecting an airline from a full compressor takes about 10 seconds to lift the car. I was going to buy a second one but it is so quick to use that I just use an axle stand, press the button to lower and reposition. Takes 5 minutes to lift all four corners up onto axle stands.

You can get 2 or 3 bag jacks, the 2 bag jacks have a lower profile and the 3 bags a higher lift. If you have a solid base you can get the jacks with wheels and a long handle to position them.

3 years ago one of these jacks would have been £500+ now you can get them online for less than £80, even if you have to buy a small compressor they are great value.

I almost never use my trolly jacks anymore.

Have you got a link to the cheaper air bags please? I have a compressor.

My hydraulic scissor ramps were £900. Four of these would have been better. They seem heavier (19.5kg) than they look. My scissor jack is too long for the Smart car. These would be able to fit under anything over 6", regardless of the wheelbase.
