I've had a busy month so far, out collecting motors, moving stuff about etc...

Bought a Lovely Golf 1.6Tdi, drove it back from London, 60 miles. The dealer ran around in it this week and now the EGR valve has bought the light on. It's tucked away at the back of the engine, subframe needs to be dropped, big bill coming.

Picked up a Caddy van, glow plug light flashing and in limp mode, needs injectors at £280 each apparantly.

Citroen C5 diesel estate, missfire so walked away from that one.

And one dealer has a CL Merc that he's stuck with, spent a couple of thousand and still not running right, he didn't want to talk about it.

Diesels used to be so reliable in the old days, noisy and slow, but reliable.

You couldn't give me one and I will never own one, I have had one in the past and I have to say I had no issues with it but all I hear is horror stories, One of the garages that we deal with had an Audi Q5 in last year and one of the diesel pumps collapsed, filling the fuel system with fragments of steel, at the time the bill was at 5k and still not sorted, the same thing happened to my colleague on his 3 year old seat Leon, 3 k later and the car is still not right.

An EGR Cooler on the VW is anywhere in the £1,000 bracket and a real B***H to do.

Oh dear, the poor chap's not having a good month. He only works on about 5-600 profit on his cars after paying the Vat etc...

Try a climate control rad on a Merc A Class, stupid placement, right at the bottom of the front bumper, good at catching stones.
Euro 700 new.
I have been there .... :(

I had an Audi A3 TDI (2011) the high pressure fuel pump decided the to self destruct and disintegrate. Had shards of metal throughout the fuel system. Took the fuel filter out and it looked like a snow globe
Quoted that it would cost upwards of £3k to repair - replace injectors, pumps, pipe work, flush system etc. Also told that no guarantee as they might miss some small parts and it might then start all over again :(
So that was the end of that car

So it looks like that injector at £280 a piece is the one for most of the VAG 1.6 Tdi engines. So £1120 per set.

And maybe it's the pump breaking up that's causing the problem.

One to avoid then, or maybe just avoid them all.

Quite often you do get an early warning of HPP failure when you change the fuel filter there's engine oil in the fuel in the filter chamber.

One of the most reliable diesels they ever made . 278 k still runs mint.
Before DPF and water cooled electronic egr valves , common rail and all the other modern items that make modern diesels break.
