Burglar caught because he had sex with a TEDDY BEAR during break-in - leaving his DNA behind for police to check. Paul Mountain of Darwen, Lancashire, broke into a shed in the town. The 38-year-old's DNA was found inside the teddy bear at the scene.
Paul Mountain couldn't resist the stuffed toy, Blackburn magistrates court heard.
Police took DNA from inside the teddy bear which matched with the 38-year-old.

Must be more than a few stories about the origins of those names. Any historians know of any? JIM

The chaps on the other side of the pond will love this one.
The town I live in is called 'Beverwijk' translated, 'Beaver Town' and they have a big yellow beaver painted (not a sticker t-tony) on the roof of the shopping center.
But the name dates back to before 1276 ('Bedevaartswijk' meaning "pilgrimage neighbourhood") when it was granted market rights by Floris V.
Around 1640, a town called Beverwyck was founded in the Dutch colony of New Netherland, this town's modern name is Albany, New York.

That's the Dutch Moto isn't it? " save a tree, eat a beaver" now I understand where all those beaver pelts came from that the Hudson's Bay Co swapped muskets to our Indians for and why there are so many trees where I live.

In a similar vein to HT's original post on this topic, I remember a report about some people passing by Doncaster ( again not Lincolnshire) on a train, and they witnessed a man having "relations" with a goat on an allotment outside the town. After the police had arrested the offender and interviewed him they asked " How low can you go?" and apparently he replied " A Chihuahua ":(
