I was feeling a vibration through the steering wheel and had a quick look at the front wheels. Noticed that the weights were missing so thought they needed to be rebalanced. Nothing major so I've been putting it off for a few weeks now.

Vibration gradually got worse so decided to take it to the tyre shop today.

:eek::eek::eek:

Definitely an accident waiting to happen. So off the road until I get some new tyres for it!

Easy to miss as it's behind the wheel and you wouldn't see it unless you had the wheel off the car.

You need to stop hitting those potholes mate :whistle::whistle::racecar::coolsteer):coolsteer)
Stephen.
Unavoidable mate. There's one on every corner! Roads are atrocious here.

I do have to mount the kerb only slightly (slowly) to get the car on my drive and think thats what's caused the bulge over time.

I drove into and out the other side of Birmingham today on what has to be the biggest and horrendous ring road. The potholes!!! And it’s relatively new. Shoddy workmanship and local authority’s Highways dept. is sadly lacking.

Not sure I recognise any names on them tyres, and, without wishing to sound particularly prejudiced (many years in the motor trade in the past) there may be a reason why cheap tyres are cheap. A nice matching set of Avons/Contis/Falkens/Dunlops etc could well be better than cheap Asian alternatives.

I’ve had Avon’s on mine before but they didn’t last very long. My favourites are Purrelli (don’t think they make the size now) and Michelins, both hardwearing and good grip.

Is the rim straight?? Or is it an optical illusion as it looks out of shape......( alternatively it could be my crap eyesight)

Lucky you found it and it didn’t blow out though....not a nice experience when they go.

@the Nefyn cat

I completely agree. Only bought this car in late August so haven't had it all that long. Previous owner had 4 cheap Chinese tyres put on very recently so hadn't gotten around to changing them as tread is between 5-7mm on all 4 corners.

A 3.0l engine and cheap Chinese tyres dont mix well! Grip isn't great in the wet.

Will be replacing with either Michelin pilot sports or a set of Bridgestones. :)

@Mazza All wheels are straight. Just that one of the tyres is bulged in two places which makes the wheel look out of shape.

I pulled up at the traffic lights the other day and looking at the Polo next to me I couldn't believe the size of the deep bubble on the side wall of the near side front. I got the attention of the young girl in the car and got her to pull over, and showed it to her, she didn't seem too concerned another couple were walking past and between us we managed to persuade her that it could blow out anytime causing a serious accident. I think it was the woman saying to her that if it blows she could not only kill herself but might take her baby that was in the back seat with her. She followed me to the quickfit about half a mile away (very slowly!) and got a couple of new tyres on the front as the other side wasn't much better. Brand that had bubbled? Bridgestone.

Had that happen with a set of Michelins years ago. All 4 tires developed blisters within 3 months of purchase. The tire shop owner was a good friend, so getting them replaced was no problem, but it happened with the next 2 sets he replaced. Finally, he replaced them with Klebers, which lasted almost 50,000 miles. I don't buy Michelins. My Z has an off brand I've never heard of, so I'll be replacing them with something better soon.
