The electric Z1 doors where the glass moves within the door as the door itself is operated is very complicated. However, they are surprisingly practical, unless you are female or Scottish and wearing a skirt or kilt. If they don't wear knickers it is very easy to identify if blondes are indeed natural. An absolute nightmare when they fail due to lack of maintenance as some parts are no longer available.

I have always loved the Z1, E30 325i engine and E36 rear axle. A great combination, then the Z3 went the other way with E36 Engine and E30 rear axle. Still a great car.

Yep, the Z1 rear "Z axle / suspension" was the prototype for subsequent models. The effective but very subtle aerodynamics are very clever. The large full width rear silencer box is shaped as an inverted wing to produce downforce via the flat under trays and rear diffusers and allied to the "S" curved bonnet produces effective downforce without the need for visual spoilers and wings. At 80mph in heavy rain water droplets on the rear of the bonnet don't move as they sit in a negative pressure area, and if you follow a Z1 in torrential rain at speed (unlikely) the spray from the twin rear diffusers creates an impressively large rooster tail.
