The C-in-C reported that Luscious wasn't starting well, cranking for about 10 seconds or so before firing up. Had a look for anything obvious last time I was home but nothing and she ran sweet as on a recent 600 mile trip. Had our local garage take a look and he said he'd checked for codes, none, checked the fuel filter and fuel pump, fuel lines and injectors, nothing. Luscious concked out and the AA man was adamant that no such checks had been done so towed to a different garage. Fuel filter was rank and injectors number 4 was duff after many tests! Apparently the fuel filter is in an difficult place to get to and is attached to the fuel pump.

Anyway, £357 later Lusciuos is now back on the school run and all is well, oh, the garage we've used for years has just lost all our business. Shame.

Wow that's poor mate. If that's how he runs his business he doesn't deserve to have one. Pleased your pap pap is sorted.

You just can't con people like that forever. Sooner or later you get found out. People like that get everyone a bad name.

Tony.

He used to have a couple of quality mechanics, the latest guy is an arse and just can't be bothered. Shame as I like to put my money past the little guy.

Good to hear that Luscious is well again.

The fuel filter / pump sits in a cradle in front of the driver's side rear wheel behind the arch liner. Not hard to do if the mounting bolts are in good nick, a few push fit pipes and electrical connector and it's out in a jiffy.

Certainly much easier to change than on the early Freelander where it was rammed up under the N/S/F inner wing and bulkhead area. A Royal PITA they were.

I have a Haynes manual up for grabs if you need one Andy. Also have some Thule roof bars and a genuine rubber boot mat going spare.

No Freelander 1 pre-update (2003). May be in a different place on your facelifted model.

Hope you got the offending filter to show the original garage and explain why he’s lost business. At least photos. Different to think about asking when it’s so important to get mobile again. Won’t achieve anything other than feeling better. But, you never know, you might get something back.
Not that any of us are likely to ever visit them, naming and shaming might help too.

Don’t think I have ever lost more money on a single car than I did my Freelander TD4
I remember you saying some time back Gaz. This aside, the only real issues we've had are the window mechanisms, they're worse than poor. We've had 4 or 5 since we've had it. Other than that she's proved ok, more so as she goes up and down the farm track several times a day. Touching wood at 130k miles.

A shame when a place you have trusted let's you down to the extent you don't want to go back.
Means also building a new relationship with another garage.
At least it's fixed without having to consult the bank manager first.

Especially as their labour charges are so cheap. Ho hum. Just means breaking out the spanners which is not a bad thing.

Sorry to read this Andy. It leaves a bad taste when a garage does this to you.
