What started as a brake reline has ended up with a full suspension overhaul. Front Struts,Rear Shocks,Front Springs, Rear Springs, Drop Lings, Inner and Outer Track Rods, Rollbar bushes, wishbones.
I was tempted to hand it over to my indy, its been a while since I have attempted any major mechanical work, and I am not exactly built to be crawling under cars, but spanners in hand and more than a little trepedation I began to put my liitle girl to rights.
Last Satruday: Change Both Wishbones, Drop links, Rollbar Bushes. The removal and replacement of the wishbones proved to be a piece of cake, the only problems I came across was the usual seized nut. The drop links are also easy to replace, as are the bushes. Total time to complete both sides 4 hours along with the customary skinned knuckles.
Today: Removal and replacement of the Front Struts, again this was pretty straight forward, again the only problem was siezed Bolts, A little help from a friend (he has a professional spring compressor), and the struts were read to be refitted.
Removal and replacements of the inner and outer track rods, this is where I am a little concerned, with the replacments came two lock washers, on removal of the old inner rods I found no lock washers present, I did try to fit them but they didnt have any way of locking the nut in place, so they were left off, Did I Do Right?
All parts were sourced from Europarts, and the only thing I can find to moan about is that the track rods did not come with the collar where the inner and outer ends join, so I had to remove them from the old parts to enable me to fit them. Total time 6 Hours.
By the way, The old dog refers to me not the car, feeling good about doing all the above, and knowing that it has all been done correctly, Bit worried about the lock washers though. @-)
