That's good news for the future, hopefully. For me a petrol engine just cannot compete with a diesel car in family car mode, a much better drive.

I see it on the mot euro 6 cars have a compliance smoke limit of 0.7 unless displaying a manufacturer's plate which you must use first .

you can see buy the limits how things are improving even between 15-16
Most newer diesel BMW up to 2015 have a plate limit around 0.5 but 2016 models have dropped to 0.09 which is really low .

I now run a 4 pot 2 litre petrol X1 in addition the the 6 pot Z3, but I did enjoy doing 135000 miles in a 335d in 2 years. It was a very nice drive. When you need to fill up as frequent as I did --- derv is a great idea. 525d before that one.,before that Range Rovers with VM motors. Then I got fed up with my RR dealer

To me derv is for business ,it's for working , petrol is for fun and I am now retired.
Did a very nice 100 mile today ,for fun,top off in February

That’s because you are driving the wrong kind of petrol my friend:

The family bus (Smax 2.5t)

Diesel pull from low down and all the way through the gear with a glorious noise. No rattles at idle (or stinky black clouds).

Just don’t be silly and ask about the MPG ok :arghh:

Kind of depends on the petrol engine, yours is a TNB 2.5, if we had one of those the C-in-C would have the off-spring at school before they left :nailbiting::coolsteer)

I don't agree about black clouds , I could always see a lot of smoke ,at night ,behind the oil burners.
The rear of the car was further proof of the smoke.

MPG was great, but other running costs could be higher, but overall cheaper to run, but that was before the present Mayor in London.

Exactly, with the council fining us for poor attendance these days it really was the only solution.....(and with the remap, intercooler, sports cat, exhaust, RS clutch etc etc) it just about gets us to school on time now...

My mechanic reliably informs me that fitting the Focus RS turbo, fuelling and internals should give a reliable 450bhp which will help to get us there a bit earlier...

That is good news. I doubt it'll make any difference though. Governments are already down the path of removing them.
Not a diesel fan despite having two (both Alfas). However I did enjoy the economy and one had a 5-pot. That one actually sounds quite nice when pushing on.
However I am back to petrol and even my daily is and I much prefer it. In fact the 7 speed DCT CLA would poo all over the 5-pot 159 Alfa and in almost every department. I do admit the 4-pot diesel I had in my Alfa GT had better economy and went well but it always sounded like a skeleton having a w*** in a biscuit tin.:nailbiting:
