Split rim refurbishment...

I've read a fair bit about wheel refurbishment and pretty much understand what can be done with a standard wheel but are there different levels of refurb available for split rims?

My split rims are in pretty good nick (will put some pics up later in the week), light kerbing etc., and the way I see it is that the outer rims are all that would need doing. Then on looking again my guess is that the rims will need dismantling in order to do properly? I then think, well it would be nice if the outers were polished to a chrome like bling, if this is possible? Finally if going down the full dismantle route will I need new or can my existing nuts be polished to keep everything looking right?

I think if you went to a reputable wheel refurbiser they would do all this.
There must be a high standard of assembly needed regarding split rims,
possibly even torque settings?
It would be interesting to see them with outers polished :)

Warrior are you a closet bling man :D

Hi Warrior

It appears that the 4 x wheels can be split, rims mirror polished, and re-assembled for a cost of £240.00 approx, by Pureklas.

I have forwarded the e-mail to you.

I would be interested to know how this compares to any other recomendations.

I know nothing about wheel refurbishing, so bear with me being a numpty.

Was just looking at their website, and I'm slightly confused. They specify they 'mirror polish' the outers, but what does that actually mean?

I've been looking at the local place called Lepsons which get's rave reviews for their refurbing service but they are £95 + VAT per wheel meaning just under £500 for the 4. But thats splitting, acid dip, powder coating etc.

Looking at Proklas it would be the £360 service as I would need the centres resprayed (which is extra). Just wondering if the £140 difference is worth bothering about and getting them done 'properly'. Does the mirror polish just mean they end up shiny, as I'm not convinced I want to lose the OEM look.

lepsons have been around a long time and have alway had a great reputation
i have only heard of another reburhisher with a similar reputation, Wizard wheels in crawley
lipson price seems the correct price for the work involved.

The advantage is that Lepsons are only 3 miles from me!

Going to pop down there next week and see if I can get a better price. I really need the wheels redone on my Cooper as they are rotting on the lug holes. Perhaps they will discount for bulk!

The corrosion is pretty common on the split rim 108's, so they are lucky to have made it this long without a refurb!

Hi,
It's been a couple of weeks so you might already be sorted, but I thought I'd just post that I used Pureklas to refurb my split-rims. Dav is very well known on the VW custom scene and his standards are incredible.
Proof is in the pudding though.....

Before....

After....

Close up....

He's a really nice bloke to deal with as well.

Thanks Boo (as it's your first post I'll also say Welcome to Zorg ;) )

I'm still undecided what to do with mine. Not sure whether to get them done now, or wait. Also need to find something to stand my car on while they are being sorted.

Has to be said he certainly has done a fantastic job on your wheels. Were the rims chrome on yours before he did them? Would love mine to look just like that!

Cheers, Gary

Thanks for the welcome (I realised after I posted that I hadn't introduced myself - have done now! :ymblushing: )

They were painted and quite grotty when I got them -

He split them, stripped them, powder coated the centres, repaired and mirror polished the rims and then re-assembled.

They do take some looking after though - regular application of jetseal109 or similar is essential to maintain the polished finish.

Nice one Boo, exactly the same wheels as mine...
Exactly the same colour Zed as mine... :coolsteer)
Same Chrome gills as mine....

Can you give an indication of cost to do the wheels?

PS: You must get some chrome on those handles though. Just finishes the whole look off :-B

Hi Warrior, you're so right! Chrome door handles have been on my 'must do' list now since we've had her - I've just not got round to it yet - You might just have spurred me on!

I've just tried to find the email confirming the cost for my refurb but can't - I think it was about £350 but it was a couple of years ago now. Just had a look at their website though and it looks like they'll do a set (split, powder coat centre, repair & polish rim) for £320... http://www.pureklas.co.uk/services/two- ... m-just-200
