well it had to happen.....was going down glossop road and there was a car parked up on the left and a wagon parked on the right on a bend only leaving space for one car to get through....as i approached i pulled into the middle to get through with nowhere else to go some chap came the other way did the same....so we didnt meet head on i give it a little bit more and sure enough there was a mobile speed camera pointing right at me..i looked down and was doing 37 in a 30 ffs.
the guy with the speed camera must have picked his spot very carefully as peoples reactions are to speed up so you dont hold the other person up...what can you do :-??
just got to wait for it to drop through the door now........

If your lucky and haven't had a ticket within the last 3 years you may get away with going on a speed awareness course. I got done doing 39 in a 30 (even with seeing the van from a distance #:-s) and they offered me the course so I went on it, cost me £60 (although I think its about £80 now) and they don't give you the points and you don't have to inform your insurance as the ticket is wiped away. Although the course was 4 hours long and the guy taking it was a bit of a muppet it is worth doing if its offered as you don't get the points and the cost of the course would have been the cost of the fine anyway.

Same "trade" I think and slightly more annual mileage (I hope). For that reason I brake. Not worth the gamble as eventually you will lose and it's not worth it.

Go to pedipoo (or what ever it's called) and prepare your defence ;) .

Think you may be ok. 37 indicated = 35 actual. Pedipoo shows limits for prosecution. Think its a touch higher than that.
I got done for 89 in a 60 last year  first ticket in 15 years and £800 fine

Not like the good 'ol days, I got caught by an unmarked omega on the a50 at 93.4 or something like that. Clear day good visibility etc. went and sat in his car and he said you're driving well, just a little quick, 3 miles an hour slower and I would have let you off but I have to give you a ticked. 3 points and 40 quid I think it was. 21 years old in an e36 I don't think I'd get away with anything like that these days.

After that I used to do 60-100k miles a year and was the same, could spot them a mile off, but out of practice now with not having them here. had some good fun with some marked and unmarked cars while driving the zed over the years.

woah £800,
I got done for 96 in a 60 some years ago and got a £60 fixed penalty and 3 points.
Mind you I was being pushed by him and he said he turned the blues on just before I hit the ton. I thought it was some idiot speeding up and slowing down behind me, and I got bored of it and put my foot down to get away.
I reckon it was entrapment, but with a fixed penalty I wasn't going to contest it.

all i was doing was trying to avoid a situation where 2 cars would have met head on in the middle of the road....but having read they rules all the have to do is prove your over the speed limit....worth going to court over?

depends if you fancy paying the costs if you lose. Allways worth asking for calibration certificate/operators trainign certificate and such, if only to annoy the DVLA. As mentioned you will probobly get the speeding course thing. My mum was doing 40 in a 30 and it came through as 37 on the ticket and she was given the option of going on a course, If your speedo read 37 you might just squeeze under the 35mph ticket limit.

depends if a days earnings is less than 3 years of inflated premiums. But yes, they dont make it easy for what can sometimes be a genuine mistake. Heres hoping the guy behind the camera uses some discretion or was too busy looking at the other guy.

It's 15 years since I got my points. It it made no difference at all to my insurance back then. Does 3 points make that much difference now?

would add over £300 to my insurance, mate of mine had an accident and it added over £700 to his next premium. For context we're both 21 and i have 1y of NCB.

This was my experience hope it helps.

I went on a speed awareness course about 6 months ago in Hull on a Saturday but areas may vary on the days available. The calculation for the conviction is 10% +1 before they will issue a ticket.
i.e in 30 mph limit.
30 mph
+10%= 3 mph
+1mph
Therefore 35 mph plus will incurr a ticket
But if you are more than 10 mph over the speed limit, had a speeding ticket or been on a speed awareness course in the last 3 years you will not be given the option to attend the course.
If you wish to see the calibration certificate and/or photos you will need to take it to court now, it is only at that point that VOSA have a legal obligation to share this information.

Wow £800
I got a £350 fine plus 6 points being clocked at 104mph, i noticed him in the mirror
whilst doing 130 mph, i thought i was going to have the book thrown at me
I had a well prepared defence at court
This was about 7/8 years ago, how things have changed
Swamps if offered do the awareness, my insurance went through the roof

Ooh, you lucky b*****r. I got clocked at 102.5, and got £200 and a 7 day ban about 10 years ago [-(

Typical speed trap - lovely sunny day, perfect visibility, dual carriageway with no other vehicles on it.
