Tell that to the looney who overtook me today and then was behind the car in front for the next 7 miles at the same speed as me.

Everyday occurrence Bri. I get fed up to the back teeth with idiots trying to kill themselves to get passed me. Happens all the time on the Woodhead pass and then like you say they sit in front of you for the next umpteen miles.

They always blame everything on speeding yet nothing on the f----rs who cause chaos by doing well under the speed limits. I am all for equality but this is one area where apparently equality does not fall into. The amount of time i have seen drivers comming close to causing accidents by over taking and are not even speeding is beyond belief and they would be the ones in the wrong not the p--ks doing 30mph in 60 mph limits

Your quite right Bill. I came up to a car so quickly the other morning on the M1 it was downright dangerous, and bare in mind I can only do 52mph. It works both ways but in my case where I am pulling 40 odd tonnes and struggling up the Woodhead I have no patience with twats that think it's OK to over take on bends etc. It's full of average speed cameras up there now and idiots like that deserve all they get!

Don't tend to speed on A/B roads and generally don't go over 85 on a clear motorway, it's the getting there that's the fun bit =)) :ymdevil:

They are just revenue cameras thinly veiled as prevention of accidents.
You have to ask why it is always fines that increase, rather than the number of points, Points would be the real deterrent which make people think twice.

"In the year up to December 22, 54,007 notices were sent out to drivers, compared with 52,873 last year."
what an amazing success!!

smacks of 'if people are going to carry on speeding, then we will generate more money from them'
that, in a nutshell, is the real point of 'safety' cameras
as seen above, other than for revenue, they just do not work

My licence is my livelihood, I cannot afford to loose it. Like said on this thread they can't do me for a bit of fast acceleration getting up to the speed limit. I rarely (not saying never) go over the speed limits.

If they could detect a car speeding at 5 miles there is no way they can video this for evidence, I think the 5 miles refers to the laser used to calculate speed.

Hardly new technology. Old technology finding a new application.

Speed cameras on many motorways have used IR since they were installed.

Modern cameras are incredibly good in low light levels anyway. The images can easily be processed to reveal information that isn't readily available on the normal image. The IR lights only makes it easier to get the number plate.

Some film on the number plate that filters IR would render the illumination useless. How long before you see the unscrupulous selling it.

We have been on the wrong end of someone doing of such a speeding driver - a head on at effectively 100mph. We were lucky to survive. It might be your turn next.

Don't speed - don't get a ticket.

100% Agree although IR technology has improved a lot over the recent years with the use of LEDs

Hmmm, not sure about this, how do you enchance an image which does not contain the information in the first place?
