This maybe a stupid question from an old dodger, can an alloy wheel fit in the spare wheel carrige, instead of the narrow spare.?.
You can't fit a standard size alloy wheel in the carrier, however BMW did supply a Alloy space saver wheel as an option on some models, they are quite rare and very expensive, please see this ebay example 165891096076

Hope this helps

Also you can fit a 175 65 to your space saver rim, and that will fit in the tub, but you need to extend the droppers on the basket by 10mm for the tub and tyre to fit in. Obviously you loose 10mm ground clearance.. But then you have a spare that doesnt upset the car, or at least not mine.. You can easily get stranded miles from anywhere here, a spare is pretty much mandatory IMO. The question is what do you with the bloody great 275 30 20, when you have your spare on ?...

Train ticket for the passenger. No way I'm leaving my rim on the road side. 😂

In its bag on passengers seat if on own.
I am currently working on a set up that will allow me to strap alloy to bootlid in an emergency.

I don't think that's doable in my case, I am yet to have to try...

I keep my skinny spare which is in good condition but with rubber the same age as the car (1999) wrapped in a plastic bag in the carrier.
As to conveying the full sized wheel probably best to have a roll of non slip mat and a couple of ratchet straps to strap it on the boot lid, must get around to stocking the boot with the kit to do this.
