Winter tyres, no recognised by some insurers :woot: that's a great spot mate.
Always been the case. And a timely reminder. Just changed insurers on two cars that will have winters on soon.

Just been robbed too. Jonathan has for the first time taken his car to uni for some of the time. An extra £30 a month to park it there during term time. Little choice but to tell the insurance even though it’s still likely to be at home more than there. Then an additional £20 for telling them. Insurers work on binary questions even though life is more complicated. They then use it against you if you dont tell them what you had for breakfast....

It's a con and utter nonsense mate. Why would I want to pay more for having a safer car over the winter period. A license to print money

Entirely agree. That’s why 70% of insurers agreed to accept them. Best to tell them you’ve put them on though unless they say you don’t have to.

There is of course a benefit of changing the tyres. In doing so you’re more likely to check those going on and those coming off. More likely to spot and rectify problems. Those that don’t give a s**t wouldn’t be changing to winters anyway.

A good note to anyone with Zorg bear as a passenger, could seriously increase the risk of theft!

The solution is simple but a bit time consuming - avoid the big rubbish lot.

I can’t believe how many people choose insurance based on getting a meerkat!

I still use Admiral for the other cars but a proper insurer for the Z. Need to do some legwork ahead of renewal so I can get get the ‘regular’ cars also with a decent insurer -just need to do it a few months ahead of renewal but so easy to let it slip and then keep it with the big lot.

A few years ago I checked with my insurers about the BMW as the question asked was if it was "standard" or some similar term. I explained it had a lot of extras/modifications that were specified and ordered/fitted when car was new. The advice was to that question reply " Car has the original specification from that built at the factory" . ((always assuming it was still in that condition.))

We paid for Jack to keep his car at UNI and it cost us £300 for the academic year. Bloody shameless but when all said and done uni's are a business like any other.
