With the nice weather we had last week, I managed to clock up 5 hours of hooning in my Z4M last Thursday, which is the longest I've spent behind the wheel in the better part of a decade! I had been out for a couple of hours in the late morning, stopping for some lunch before getting home. An hour later a very old friend of mine came over to show me his new 2014 3 series. We then went out for 3 hours going out as far as MK, as I really love the A4221, which I use to drive a lot when I was living in Bedford as a bar manager. Back then I had my first car, which was an E30 318i. That car got driven over 10,000 miles that year, when you consider I lived in the pub/my place of work, just shows how much joy driving has always given me!

Because I had the roof down, I took a few pics as Poppa and I had finally finished all the little jobs that needed to be done on my Zed since I got it late last year. I finally have all the "M" badges on the car, the kick plate (sill plate) has been put back on the drivers side and the leather has been treated on my drivers door. The next goal is going to be sorting out all the fine scratches/whirls on the paintwork. Once we have the next period of good weather, Poppa and I will start on getting the paint up to his standards.

As mentioned, this is the first time I've taken pics with the roof down. I was trying to capture the blue hue of the "Carbon Black" as its something that typically fails to show up in most photos, leaving the car looking more like diamond black.

In the last pic, I think I managed to capture the blue hue for the first time. I was using the camera on my iPhone X, which is why the quality is not that good. I was pleased with the result

When you get the car in good natural light, you can really see the very dark blue element. I am guessing it's from the metallic flakes in the paint. When I first saw my car on AutoTrader, it looked like a typical BMW black paint job. It wasn't until a week or so after I bought the car that I was able to notice the blue element. I was really wanting to get a nice blue Z4M, but the dealer never bothered to return our calls when we asked about the car they had for sale (both before and after I bought my Z4M). We even told them that we were very serious about wanting to buy, explaining we were wanting to trade in my mums 2010 factory JCW Mini, which had a full dealer service history and still had a valid warranty policy.

My weakness for Z4's in blue almost ended up with me going for a Z4 3.0 Coupe, with white/cream leather. It was a member on this forum that was selling and they had owned the car for a few years. If the 3.0 had more power, I would have given up on the idea of getting a Z4M, but I wanted to have a car with a similar output to what my heavily modified Subaru Impreza P1. It wasn't until I had already seen my Z4M that I learnt of all the huge differences between the normal and M versions of the Z4. Still if someone ever offered to do a deal for my Z4M with them giving me a blue E86 Z4 3.0 and cash, I might actually agree to it.

I had a Carbon Black E46 M3 which looked amazing going from ebony black to a sort of purple/blue depending on the light. I had it detailed part way through my ownership and I couldn’t believe it was my car when I went to pick it up.
