2.30am.
The dog is growling.
Mrs RGF looks out and sees the security light on and utters those infamous words " Quick! There is someone messing with your car!"
I dash out to find the doors of my Jag slightly ajar. No damage done but my satnav and a coat have gone. My Who double cd is still there, phew.
I go back inside to get the keys to lock it up again...but no keys. Then the penny drops that they have broken into the house, lifted the keys and let themselves into the car....but at least they haven't taken it. Nothing else taken from the house either. In many ways I have been lucky.

This is not the first such story on here and gives us all a reminder about key security.

I have to say that the insurance companies have been brilliant. I phoned the house insurance at 4.00am and within half an hour a locksmith was on the phone wanting to come to change the house door locks.
I phoned the car insurer (LV) later in the day (after CSI had lifted fingerprints etc) and again, within half an hour a recovery truck was there to take my car away to a secure place in readiness for changing all the locks etc.

So there you are folks, another salutary tale and a reminder for you all.

For those of you with good memories you will recall that this is not my first story about keys, but we'll let that one rest!

Sorry to hear that Roy, Somebody tried to break into our house twice in 6 months but failed to gain entry both times as I had sash locks over the door which I highly recommend. I had a brand new Seat Altea at the time which I figured they were after at the time, no trouble since some 7-8 years later (touch wood).

Not a nice feeling nowing your space has been violated like that just make sure Mrs RGF is OK. ;)

Sorry to hear about that but glad you two are ok and car is being sorted.

A few years ago, my then xr2i was jacked up on bricks from next doors garden wall, and whilst removing the last alloy (which had all new tyres fitted 2 days prior) they put the spanner down a bit too hard on the pavement which had woken me. I dashed down and they were gone, but retrieved my alloys from a garden close buy and all but one wheel nut. My wooffer was fast asleep, snoring his little head off. But still not a nice experience.

All sorted!
Jag back from the garage with all new locks, ignition, new keys, recoding etc. Just a few pennies short of £800. Perhaps I don't begrudge the insurance after all, but if I ever get the toe rag who broke in I'll beat my £250 excess back out of him!

Lessons learned!

its not nice.

2 humans broke into my parents, when i lived there, i heard funny noises down stairs got half way down the stairs and realised. but they had realised 1 second before me, and i was about 12" from finding out if the police would have banged me up for what i would have done, if i got hold of one of them.

A mate of mine, a Policeman, had his car nicked the other week. (Not the Police car...lol) His missus had left her keys in view of the letter box and they'd hooked them through hoping that the house keys were attached. Everybody was home at the time and never heard a thing.

I am pleased to report that our burglar has been caught and is to appear in court in a fortnight. Well done North Yorkshire police!
This guy got two years for similar offences a few years ago and community service last year for another 25(!). It sounds like he has a few to take into account his time as well so it's probbably bye bye for a little while again.
No sign of my gear though.

Good news :-bd
Pity you didn't get any of your gear back but it would have been 'disposed of' pretty soon after the break in. Was he caught on forensics?
