Hi guys
Do you know any mechanic in Hampshire or Surrey who could replace my headlight lens cover?
I asked around Eastleigh but it seems the job is not worth the hassle for any mechanic I check ... :(
I have new headlight lens cover and need to get them fitted, otherwise MOT will fail.
Any help please, pretty please?
** Thank you **
PS: I don't think Ross from RBM in Hook would this job... too small for him.

Why are you changing the outer lens? If they are discoloured they would have to be VERY bad to fail the MOT. You can polish them to get rid of scratches. E85 headlights are not that easy to change so would be quite expensive in labour costs.

My merc ml failed mot on cloudy lenses. Rubbed them over with 2500 wet. Makes em look worse but then polished up with polishing paste. Then wax. Came up a treat.

But I've also heard some people say that just rubbing the lens with an oily rag works as a temporary measure.

A proper headlight cleaning kit comes with several grades of wet and dry emery paper. It does look as though you've made it worse to start with but you have to persevere . They WILL come up as good as new. Never had one yet I couldn't bring back. The usual.problem with E85 lights is condensation on the insides of the lenses.

Tricky words for a foreigner! I googled those three words and none seemed to be what is required for the job - especially oily rag! Thanks anyway!!

Absolute rubbish. He is just lazy or scared to do it. I am a long way away, but, if you're prepared to come up to Lincoln when I get home, I will do them for you.

Just reading up on this thread now i am still an active Mot tester and I'm with Tony if just oxidation I've not seen a light that cant be saved ( internal water ingress or discolouration is a different problem altogether.

Do you have any decent quality close up pictures of the lights where we can see the issue in better detail.

Are you able to buy a new lens cover?
I would just follow the advice from Tony.

After several attempts at polishing my headlights without success, even had them done once at a body shop. I looked at new lenses but looked a bit tricky and no guarantee of success. I went for the non oem headlights at just over £400. I know its not standard but do like the look
