Hi All,

My OEM head unit's display has died (Business RDS), so going to replace with another OEM unit. My question is where do I get the code for the replacement unit? is the code different for each unit or just for each car? oh and what tool do I need to get the old one out?

Also does anyone know where and how much it would be to repair the display?

sorry loads of questions in one go!

thanks

Have you looked on Ebay as there often people who will decode the radio if you provide the serial number.

You could call a main dealer but I expect they would charge for the pleasure.
Removal tools are normally available at Halfords. They vary is shape and size but again ebay is a good place to find some.

On my old Z3 there was a plastic cover at each end of the head unit. Under these were 4 hex grub screws which need to be removed (yours may not have them). Then you can use a piece of a wire coat hanger bent in a “U” shape and pushed into the holes. You need on for each end, these push back the retaining clips and if you put your fingers or other device into the cassette slot you should be able to pull the head unit out of the dash. HTH.

Many E36 radios did not have security codes. All Z3 radios did have them. While the E36 radios will have slightly different faces they work just a s well in our cars.

A lot of Rover cars used the same units, just the branding was different.
