That's click bait.

The page wants to lure in the "fat-exhaust-on-900cc-fiesta" fraternity. Open the page a zillion ads start rolling and website owner laughs all the way to the bank.

They're not going to give you a Q plate for something like a spoiler, lowered suspension and a go faster stripe.

The Q is if you build a car from pre-used parts from half a dozen different models of cars then stands to reason that dvla won't know what year it really is. They use a points system where different parts have different amount of points and if a certain number of part/points, including chassis, come from one car then your project gets that car's ID. If not enough points from one donor then you get a Q.

Although about 30 years ago I brought my 280SE over from Germany and reg'd in the UK and the ruperts in dvla gave it a Q. No idea why. Maybe the jobsworth couldn't read the year from the german reg doc. 🤷‍♂️ Actually. I didn't mind.

Dvsa dont really like issuing Q plate these days unless they have to as it has ramifications when comes to Mot time

As for mot you have to treat the car as if it was built before Aug 75 for emissions and Jan 71 for rest of test.
Which could mean that a number of components on the vehicle that should be tested dont as it was not compulsory at the criteria applied to the set down age limits.
For example before 1st Apr 86 cars dont need side repeaters or a hazard switch.
Also age related changes to seatbelt rules and other items.

So these days whenever possible Dvla will try and issue an age related plate
To make sure any applicable vehicles are tested to the correct standards.
Stephen.

although in the Hotrod fraternity a Q plate is now considered a very good asset.
it shows not only had the car been built to a high standard, but that it has passed a very rigorous BIVA test.
the cars are bullet proof and it’s harder for plod to try and pull it apart.
