I bought a few plates in 2012 and had to pay £25 each in 2013, 2014 and 2015 to retain them.
I was pleasantly surprised when I went online to renew in 2016 it was free and lasts until 2026.
DVLA are going to do quite well out of the peeps who will be paying for the four years they missed, or they might be able to sell the plate again.

It states that if retention is let go they will not sell the plates again, they will just be written off, somehow I find that hard to believe ................
