Man what a peach, if it was LHD in the mainland it would be worth twice as much. Good luck with the sale.
I'm quite new to the forum, but this is the second time I've read about a z's value being so much more on the continent. Any particular reason why?

Lovely car by the way, very clean.

Thought this was an interesting question, and moved it to it's own thread so it didn't take the original one off topic.

Pricing has always been stronger on the continent for this type of car, think it's that generally prices in the UK are just incredibly low in comparison. Lack of appreciation for certain cars perhaps?

When watching UK formats like Wheeler Dealers I've always been shocked by how cheap you can buy a 2nd hand car in UK. Here there are also companies specialized in importing RHD exotics or sportcars (like TARGET) thanks for the high profit margin they have: you can sell them a few thousand quid below market price and still walk away with some cash in your pocket if you find the guy who doesn't mind driving from the passenger seat :D

Be very wary of Target cars.

I was instructed to go there to inspect and collect a Porsche a few years back that they'd purchased from the UK.

Luckily before I'd booked the flights the dealer rang me back to say it had been a write off after an Hpi check on the chassis number.

No mention of that from Target in their advert, or the conversation with my customer.

Maybe a mistake? Maybe not, but be wary....

I assume they go racking around everything they can put their hands on at a low price...if you see the cars they sell sometimes they don't even put too much effort in making them look pretty...a while ago I was hunting for a S1 Elise...needless to say they got a handful and some of them looked really dodgy to say the least...

My answer to the question is that mainland Europe is a much larger market place than the UK.
You often see adverts stating "genuine NL car, first registered in the Netherlands"

Autoscout24.com shows what prices are like on the continent. Many years ago as a past time I used to import cars from Japan. At that time prices in the UK were higher for second hand cars but now the situation is reversed. My own view is that the UK market has been saturated with cars. Having the steering on the right means that no one Europe wants to buy RHD cars otherwise they would all be sold to europe. I did sell a RHD MX5 to a frenchman but he had problems registering it. We should just enjoy our cheap supply of sporscars while we can.

As most know I bought my 97 1.9 z3 in the U.K. and shipped it to Canada where it cleared customs and was then transported to my drive. Even with all the extra costs involved I paid far less than the equivalent car was priced in Canada or the USA. And it's still a novelty to my friends that I allow to test drive it. They can't believe how easy it was to adapt to RHD except for left hand shifting which was no problem for me as I'm ambidextrous. There's your opening @HT!! Will need to buy another as soon as I can afford one or I inherit @Sean d 's car because soon enough Trinity will graduate (4-5 yr) and will take it as her car!! JIM

Would there be a market for right hand drive zeds on the continent? If so what sort of money do they fetch?

I think they are difficult to get registered, especially in France.

Plus the cost of new headlights?

Plenty of exotica goes to the continent from the UK, especially now our £ is weak.

Just spent a couple of hours on Auto Scout. Surprised by the number of Z1's and Z8's on the market. They are all LHD of course. Would have to wait until they are 30 years old before I could import them into N.Z. and not have to do a RHD conversion. Gives me some time to save up a bit.

No little enterprise there then. Just a thought.
