re Z3 2001 3.01

Hi, new to here and love the site. I have a Phillips original business casette radio which I have no code for due to a battery change and not having it in the paperwork, I have spent most of today searching the internet for the four figure code and even considered contacting the local stealer but not before I ask for your collective guidance and help. Most of the on line forums are old and closed and the pay sites I don't trust to give me the correct code having paid for it if the forums are to be believed.
the SN is PH7850Y1471424

I have the unit currently removed (holding the M button in all combinations did not work even though it is a 2001 car) so can provide any other authentication and numbers, had to go out and buy additional hex keys so I could remove unit via the flappy windows on either side

please help, with the roof down all I want to hear is the exhaust notes, but with it up I need my radio fix
Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to the site. Unfortunately you will have to contact BMW ( usually your local dealer) to get the code. I think his is correct unless somebody knows a different way.

I have read of many other people who have access to codes but maybe the dealer is the only way, thanks for the reply

did just that - having taken the radio out to get the numbers he just asked for my reg and gave me the code over the phone - no charge!

Now there is a story to restore any lost faith in BMW dealers. :)

I should have done this first, but having read the threads of a number of forums just assumed I was going to get charged more than the cost of a new radio (it is an old cassette type so I guess he didn't think I nicked it - who would!) plus some post have said dealers give wrong codes. Thumbs up to BMW dealers Rybrook in Warwick - spread the love!

I've heard varying stories on this subject as well. Never had to prove/disprove the point as both my Zeds came with the working codes in the paperwork!

just to round off the story, I took a bit of a gamble posting my last post as I had put in 3 wrong codes and got the dreaded WAIT lock out message. But did the usual leave it on for an hour and put in the dealers code in and up it fired straight away with all my radio settings intact (must store it somewhere). If there is any one reading this who wants to remove a radio they recommend an alum key of 2.5mm but I found the imperial nearest equivalent a better fit, and watch those flappy screw panels they easly break (fortunately I was warned) but ebay are selling replacement for £18.00 just for a tiny bit of plastic!
