Can anyone tell us, what the price of Petrol is in France and whether it is worth filling up this side of the Channel at the moment or waiting until we get to the French side. Up until now it has always been better to wait and take advantage of cheaper petrol on the continent, but recent trends have altered prices, so that they are all over the place.

We are sailing on 22nd June from Portsmouth to St Malo, motoring in our Z4, Monty, first to Brittany and then across the Loire via St Nazaire down to St Jean De Mont in the Vendeé. We use premium Plom 98 as Monty always performed better when using the richer grade.

Does anyone else notice that their Zeds give a better performance on the higher grade fuels.

Think it works out to around £1.07 a litre using an exchange rate of 1.34 to the £

Fuel prices 25 per cent cheaper in Europe this summer 2015.
British holidaymakers will enjoy the lowest petrol prices in Europe since 2007 this summer, thanks to the collapse in the price of crude oil and the weak euro.

Pump prices have fallen by 20-25 per cent across the eurozone since last summer, compared with 15 per cent in the UK, because of the surge in the value of sterling against the euro.

I assume the same trend will be running for diesel? As we are now going in the saab I should only use around half a tank to get to Dover so I'll be able to get well into France before requiring fuel again.

@EnthuZiaZT - Mike missed your question in the pets thread. We have been using Shell V Power at 1.59 euro/litre. I think lower octane is about 1.35 but haven't paid much attention - more concerned with the bloody weather down in La Rochelle. Will make a note when out today and post later.

@EnthuZiaZT - general price for 98 in La Rochelle area is 1.55 to 1.62 euro/litre for the better brands. I've topped up with Avia 98 today at 1.55 euro. Some of the budget brands Lidl/ LeClerc are around 1.44 for 98?. It's diesel which is 1.35.

Sad to hear the weather is so bad, Jonco, not what you expect on the Loire-Atlantique Coastline, we have had two brilliant days here though, hope it clears up before we get out there on the 23rd.

Have you managed to get round all the places you wanted to, Sans Sebastian, Biarritz and Bayonne?

Thanks for the petrol info, will fill up accordingly, all the EAC WW1 Expeditionary Force like the old Shell V Power - see pic in Belgium 2012.
