Hi,
I have been looking for paint colours. I would like a 'traditional' retro red but that is proving difficult, as there are so many shades.
Looking at colours on a (cheap) PC monitor is not ideal, either.

So far I am leaning toward a standard RAL colour, 3020, as I can get it mixed for aerosols easily and fairly cheaply, and when it comes to painting the car the sprayers will get the colour to match easily.

Any other thoughts on easily available red colours?

This just happens to be described as "Ferrari Red" gel coat. If you spray BMW Hell rot onto it you get an almost perfect match, what are the odds!!!
I would suggest getting a can of BMW Hell Rot from eBay.

If you look at the "quick and dirty door cards" thread, the photo shows a "Ferrari Red" gel coat body fitted to a Hell Rot red Z3 donor. you can see how close the colour is. The inside of the door and door opening is original BMW paint and the shell is gel coat.

The term "Ferrari Red" can describe anything from pink to orange and a million shades in between. From my (limited) searching it would seem that a traditional red is on the orange side, rather than bright red. The RAL 3020 looks to be slightly 'orangey'. I think I will order a couple of different shades and see what they look like. I have an image in my head of the colour I want/ would look authentic. Just got to see if it translates into reality.

That picture is my 'back end' isn't it? That's quite exciting! :)

This is my Daytona Spyder replica that is painted in Ferrari Corsa Rosso, again it is an almost exact match for Hell Rot.

And maybe!

Corsa Rosso, real and replica.
I do think the over riders are a great finishing touch

All the pictures of original cars that I have seen have the small round side indicators but this original has the coffin style fitted to 250 SWB's.

My previous 250 California was Ferrari Rosso Barchetta 312 which is a slightly deeper, darker red than Rosso Corsa. It was stunning.
Needless to say my current 250 California is in the paint shop now, and will be painted in Rosso Barchetta 312 again. But it's your choice at the end of the day ...😉

It's funny as the original car looks much more 'pillar box' red than the fake. But of course, it could have been repainted many times. I have read that the Italians back in the 1960s just painted them in whatever red they happened to have lying around and called them all 'rosso corsa'.
Again, with the indicators, it seems all factory cars were different in one way or another. Which makes it much easier for us, as there is no 'right' or 'wrong' to aspire to really!
