Far heavier than most helicopters so far more lift needed hence much greater downdraught.
Did no-one think beforehand that there might be a problem?

I wonder who is paying?
I was attached to the Harrier field support squadrons who made the hides and airstrips for them. We used 1 metre long spikes to secure the trackway. It didn't look like that trackway was secured at all.

Remember it well, hard work in the summer for the lads.

Could easily have done, but those rotors are far stronger and robust compared to helicopter blades. Would likely take an awful lot of abuse before disassembly. Don't think they'll be invited back anytime soon though.
