i see it mentioned often"when you drive near the limit" and it got me thinking,(not always a good thing) .Do I drive near the limit? What is the limit?and do I want the limit to be any higher?

No Mike, I think Hugh has legitimate Question.
I would go so far as to define the Limit of a Zed 3 or 4 as:

The point where the car is traveling fast enough for the tyres to loose grip on a dry day or so fast in a straight line that the aerodynamics of the car allow it to become so light it is uncontrollable.

I wonder as Hugh does what others think???

The limit for me is the bod (boddet) behind the wheel. Unless you are a race/rally car driver I suspect we'd all run out of puff/bottle way before the car. Oh, as Mike says, tyres also. IMHO :)

You only know what the limit is when you have exceeded it and there are far too many variable to calculate or to find all the information, so you might as well go slower in the first place.

You might have a point there, Brian. However I would say that many drivers do know when a car is approaching the limit of its engineering capability, They feel it somehow or sense it. Its used to be called " Driving by the seat of your pants"

If your car handles really well the limit of the car will be higher which in turn will allow you to drive faster,is this a good thing?

Thats why we buy Zeds Hugh, so that we can drive faster. otherwise this would be a Peugeot 106 Forum.

I've got an M sitting outside I can drive it a bit faster than the 2.8 but man it's scary going that fast,I like it but I'm pretty pleased to to get home .the 2.8 doesn't handle as well but I can have a lot of fun driving it with the power and handling characteristics that it has

I have a zed and I am to be fair classed as a plodder! Pushing limits can cause upset and more. There's a time and a place to push the limits of our cars. As @hard top says, if your that way inclined, get on a track.

I've mentioned before that most people on a bike are "over biked" we had a perfect example of it on the last Italy trip we had a guy with us who last year had a 500 cc bike and was at best an average rider, over the summer he tested and bought a 250 ,man was he a better more confident and accomplished rider.and he enjoyed the experience much more .do you think the same applies for cars?

Somewhere middle of the road I'd say Hugh.To much power is wasted, but as @EnthuZiaZT used a Peugeot 106 as an example, it wouldn't really fill you with joy and excitement either!

Your instinct will tell you Hugh, when you drive in bad conditions if you are about to lose it, just as if you do exceed the limit you will know instinctively how to right the situation. Its only timing that dictates weather you crash or not.

Would those things make me drive the car any faster?
Maybe, don't know, depends on the driver but at least you would get to know the limits of your car.
You just gave a good example of the guy with the 500cc.
