Just done an oil change on my daughter's 1.4 Mini , it holds 4.2l , I could only drain 2 litres , the dipstick was still registering on the low level . I know engines don't completely drain but seems a bit much left in ?

If the drain plug is out and the car is level then there isn't any oil (other than maybe a pint in the filter) left in the engine. Soooo I would say it was a tad low before the change? ;)

Sorry I meant the level is showing low on the stick after draining , and full after replacing the 2 litres .

With a little research you will see the mini dipstick is a poor design and collects oil on the drag up the pipe giving false readings and is not to be trusted, its a big issue apparently. If the correct amount is 4.2 litres (which it seems it is) then that what must go back in regardless of what came out, assuming you have changed the filter that is. You can buy a replacement stick called a Cravenspeed that solves this problem it seems.

Obviously you need to check for the correct one for your engine.
