Oh dear, did any one notice, the boot rack, it's erm....well how do I say, IT'S THE WRONG WAY ROUND....
As you already know, we've gone through this thing with the boot rack several times before. About 2 years ago, I wanted to put an end to it once and for all. I contacted 5 or 6 companies who supply and install them to get the right answer. It turned out that they were evenly divided about the subject just as we are. So I gave it up. If THEY couldn't agree, and its their business, where were we going to go with it? Frankie

I think it all comes down to what you're carrying Frankie, in your case, your wife, in Hugh's case, a plastic blow-up worried looking sheep !! Oh, and in HT's case Beer ! =))

Look, forget the people who sell them, they just want to sell one, so will agree with you in order to make you buy it. Let's in stead focus on the design intent. The issue is the forces created during braking and acceleration, and the fact is, there is more forward force on the luggage in the luggage rack on heavy braking than there will ever be on acceleration. So in order to save you having your toupee knocked off by a low flying suitcase, the boot rack was designed with the cross bar at the front, which would prevent a non BMW suit case or case of beer @hard top from providing free air conditioning up front. Of course the use of a BMW hard case means you can site it any way round.

I firmly believe that a true Z3 enthusiast will mount his luggage get rack the correct way round...

Personally I don't think we've debated this enough .but just to convince you that I'm right as I was walking home last night I slipped and fell which left me a bit dazed .during this time I saw a bright light and a voice spoke and said "you have your boot rack on the right way and your not having any more beer until you clear your bar tab" ........I'm convinced ,who am I to argue with a voice from above and I'm definitely leaving the pub earlier from now on.And just to remind me I've a massive bruise on my a*s where I fell on it

You know Miller, that's really funny, last night I was out and about flying by the seat of my pants, when I looked down and noticed a Z3 with its boot rack on the right way round, I called out in praise, saying because of your wise Es please add a steak dinner and six pints to my tab at the pub, but unfortunately I startled the owner with the light from my Maglite super LED, and he collapsed. So I fled the scene...

Having already been wrong on another post once tonight I'm going to add my two penny worth. The English boot rack is always put on the car with the bar at the back to aid loading of said boot rack. The Case/Beer/Wife will not slide off while you fiddle with your leather strap to tie it firmly on, thus preventing it from flying forward in the event of hard braking. As the English invented the boot rack, this must be the correct way round.:ymdevil:

Seeing that pic just goes to re-enforce the point that I wouldn't want to lose my cargo off the back.however if it got dislodged and ended up on my lap it the front ,how is that a bad thing?

Is this a cunning plan Hugh, is that why you're not using the leather straps?:ymdevil:

Poor Stacey, don't let them call you baggage, now to a more serious note, the heaviest part of the human body is the head, and on braking, this heavy and dense object would now be flying through the car smashing everything it comes into contact with including itself, making a very nasty mess. Play safe kids...
